14 Cute and Innocent-Looking Villains in Anime

Some anime characters you can look at and think, “Oh yeah, that’s definitively a villain,” but some of the best villains are exactly the opposite. Nothing hits harder than a cute character turning out to be an absolutely psychopathic villain that has just been toying with every character around them. Aside from possibly giving you trust issues in your real life, cute villains can make great villains in your anime series.

Best Innocent-Looking Anime Villains

Kyubey

Kyubey from Madoka Magica

Kyubey is the very definition of “cute, but evil.” Essentially, his role is to trick young girls into becoming magical girls to generate energy for his overlords. It is not that he is exactly evil, but more so that he just doesn’t really care about their horrific ultimate fate.

Nui from Kill la Kill

Nui from Kill la Kill

Nui doesn’t exactly hide her psychopathic side, but she isn’t exactly what you would expect from a villain either. Now, Satsuki is more what you’d expect, but it turns out she is just a big red herring for the cheerful, childish real murderer in the series, Nui.

alluka hunter x hunter

Alluka Zoldyck From Hunter x Hunter

Alluka may not be exactly evil, but in a family of assassins and having no assassin training herself, you know something is terribly wrong when her whole family is afraid of her. The issue is Alluka has an entity inside of her that grants wishes. Unfortunately, to get the wish, you need to complete three tasks for her. The bigger the wish, the more terrible and difficult the tasks.

young bradley fma

Young Bradley from Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood

Aww, look at that little man with his cute pinchy cheeks. Who would ever guess that upon his awakening he would become one of the most terrible monsters in the world of Full Metal Alchemist. Even in his adult form, Bradley is pretty unsuspecting, but less cute.

isabella promised neverland

Isabella in The Promised Neverland

There is nothing more chilling that seeing Isabella treat her children so kindly only for that smile to become twisted as something horrible happens to them. She takes that “never stop smiling” thing to the extreme, but that matronly facade is really what makes her such an effective villain.

Shion and Mion From Higurashi: When They Cry

Shion from Higurashi: When They Cry

Shion, or is it Mion? Who really knows. As she has a gentle and actually quite nice twin, Shion is a pretty effective antagonist. One, because she can pass off as her twin easily, and two because she seems somewhat conflicted about doling out vengeance and pulling off people’s finger nails for a laugh.

elfen lied anime

Lucy from Elfen Lied

Imagine being both a hero and an villain in your own series? Lucy, because of a nasty head wound, can do both. As a Diclonius, she is destined to supplant humanity as the superior species and vows vengeance as those who experimented on her. Unfortunately, after the head wound, she can also be that gentle Nyu who has nice human friends as well.

mijin buu dbz

Majin Buu from Dragon Ball Z

Aw, so chubby and turning things into candy… Including people… Then eating them. Yikers. Majin Buu is one of the more hilarious villains in Dragon Ball Z, but eventually gets himself a glow up as a villain in the forms of Super Buu and Kid Buu.

cute but evil anime villians

Tanya from The Saga of Tanya the Evil

Joining the military at nine, Tanya may look like a little cherub, but she has the mind of a middle aged sociopath. He was reincarnated into the body of a little girl, and often uses this unsuspecting exterior to his advantage on his literal quest for vengeance against god.

akane scums wsih

Akane from Scum’s Wish

While everyone is terrible in Scum’s Wish, Akane is easily the villain of the show. She is definitely not the good school teacher since she is not only sleeping with a student, but pretty much waggling it in the face of another – manipulating everyone involved. True to real life, she also gets away with a lot of things because she is, in fact, a hottie.

murdery yuno from future diary

Yuno from Future Diary

As a popular girl at school, the last thing people expect Yuno to be is a yandere girl for one of the less popular boys at school. Yet, that is what we get. Her tendencies are explained eventually, but watching her heartlessly murder for a guy she barely knows in the beginning is rather jarring.

myne shield hero

Malty/Myne from The Rising of the Shield Hero

This series is pretty much built on this trope. No one wants to be the shield hero, even the shield hero. Yet, he is happy when one girl chooses to be his ally because she is nice and pretty. However, when she accuses him of rape just for the fun of it and turns everyone against him, she is firmly established as a villain. Much of the rest of the series is just her using her good looks to manipulate people against him.

justice bitch from akame ga kill

Seryu from Akame ga Kill

Seryu, also know as Justice Bitch, is all smiles and manners when first introduced. You almost think she might be a good person. However, when someone goes against her ideals, she is all psychopathy. She commits a lot of horrific acts in the series and may even be a more effective villain than those considered the main villains.

griffith from berserk

Griffith from Berserk

Griffith is the ambitious commander of a group of mercenaries. He wants them to be knights, and ultimately, he wants to be royalty. As he is charismatic and beautiful, his mercenary comrades work to build that dream for him, willing to even throw down their lives on the battlefield. However, as you watch the series, you see that he does not consider the characters friends in return, but rather stepping stones for his ambition. This leads to his ultimate betrayal that throws the entire world into chaos.
