You know what they say, real manly men don’t have those smooth baby faces, they have a little chin hair going on. One of the finer things about anime is that you can do a lot of great and terrible things with beards. You can make them defy logic and even gravity, turning them into something you couldn’t find anywhere in this universe. If you are an aficionado of impressive facial hair in anime, then look no further.
Yamamoto from Bleach
When you have, what? Thousands of years to cultivate a beard? That there beard better end up being the coolest “down to you legs” beard you can possibly grown. The rest of the Shinigami’s are slacking by comparison.
Jet Black from Cowboy Bebop
Some might say the most noticeable thing about Jet is the fact that he is missing an arm. However, the by far more interesting bit about him is everything going on in that there facial area. Not only does he has a nice eye scar and metal plate accent, but his chin whiskers are perfectly perky, at least on the side.
Joseph Joestar from Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure
Once you get past your prime, there are only two things to do – leave the adventuring to the young’uns and take the time to grow out your beard. Joseph Joestar did one of those things at least.
Lordgenome from Toppa Tengen Gurren Lagaan
Lordgenome’s beard is quite possibly the perfect beard, for a villain, anyway. Not only does it accent his fine chest swirl, but the way it grows out at the sides makes it absolutely perfect for any and all diabolical stroking.
Gendo Ikari from Neon Genesis Evangelion
What separates Gendo “I have the haircut of a 14-year-old-boy” Ikari from being a bitch like his son? Guys, it’s the beard. It is the beard with the tinted hippie glasses and the inexplicably white gloves.
Daisuke Jigen from Lupin The Third
The best part of Jigen’s beard is really how well it works with his face. His pointy beard makes the crescent complete!
Juzo Okita form Space Battleship Yamato
I know that if I were to ever take command of a space battleship, like 90 percent of my authority would have to come from my beard too. Okita is more beard than face at most points , and that is okay.
Netero from Hunter x Hunter
What I like most about this beard, is you get to watch it progress from a wee young man’s beard to a full on gray bush that is accented by the wrinkles of age and constant silly face expressions. We should all aspire to Netero beard standards when we are old and gray.
Qi Wang from Kingdom
Can you imagine how long it takes to get three perfectly straight lines of beard hair? Without fucking it up and starting over? Impossible! Too bad this beard is ruined by the rest of his face.
Brownbeard from One Piece
There is Whitebeard and his finely shaped mustache, Blackbeard and his chin curls of a boy that just hit puberty, then there is the vastly underestimated Brownbeard. He may suck in other respects, but his beard is glorious.
Sylvester Asimov from Terraformars
The most admirable thing about Asmiov’s beautiful red beard is that even when he transforms, it is unaffected. In fact, it somehow manages to get cooler. The fact that your beard gets cooler during any and all transformations is a sure sign of a grand beard.
Kotetsu T. Kaburagi from Tiger and Bunny
Kotetsu’s beard may be just a tiny goatee, but what is truly special about it is how ridiculously overgroomed it is. Can you imagine shaving those intricate lines in each morning? At what point do you decide that is bullshit then end it all?
Tomio Ookawa from Shiki
I like to call this beard…The Updraft!
Rider from Fate/Zero
Of course, Broskander needs a mention. Not only is he a pinnacle of a man, but his beautiful red beard is a thing that commands respect, awe, and jealousy from all who see it. His beard made him a target.
Kenji Harima from School Rumble
Kenji may normally sport just a spit of a goatee, but at one point, he managed to cultivate a fine beard. Unfortunately, tragedy soon struck and Eri accidentally cut it off. She must now forever be unlovable.
