summer 2020 anime series

5 Summer 2020 Season Anime Series Worth Watching This Summer

I was so incredibly excited when I was first sampling the anime this season. A lot of the series started off really strongly, but like usual, so many of them went off the rails. Luckily, not many of them did, though! It lead to an overall really good season for anime, even if there are no likely instant classics mixed in there. If you are looking to see what wheat rose out of the chaff in the summer 2020 season, here’s what I would recommend.

Best Summer 2020 Anime

god of high school anime

God of High School

In Korea, they host the God of High School tournament. In it, the strongest high school fighters battle it out against each other for the top prize. This year, Mori Jin, a Taekwondo specialist, has entered, but soon finds out there is more at play than just a simple tournament.

Why It’s Worth Watching? – There are a lot of mixed feelings on this series, apparently. The whole anime series is basically a tournament arc, and it doesn’t really try to be much more than that. There is a larger plot, but the fights in the area are very much the focus of the series. The fights are lovely and fluid, and I feel like it should be okay just to watch a series because it looks good sometimes.

misfit of demon king academy anime

Misfit of Demon King Academy

After countless wars, Demon Lord Anos Voldigoad decided he would reincarnated into the future. However, 2,000 years later, he has found that his descendants have become too used to peace and their magical powers weakened because of it. Reincarnated with his full strength, the sheer magical power of Anos makes him a misfit at the Demon King Academy charged with educating the next generation in waning magical prowess.

Why It’s Worth Watching? – I looked at the synopsis and the poster initially and thought, “Eh, I probably won’t like this.” Of course, I watch the new series regardless to make recommendations for it, but I’m glad I did watch this one. This isn’t some generic isekai or fantasy plot. It has some interesting new elements to it instead of just rehashing everything that is always redone. It is very much a harem series, but it has some nice flashy fights, very little ecchi, and nicely enjoyable comedy.

rent a girlfriend anime

Rent-a-Girlfriend

Recently dumped by his girlfriend, college student Kazuya Kinoshita tries to fill the void with an app that lets him rent a girlfriend. While Chizuru seems like the perfect girlfriend, reading the reviews online, he finds out it is an act. He leaves her a bad review and this reveals her more sassy true self when she comes after him for it. Unfortunately, after his grandmother’s collapse, he introduces her as his girlfriend at the hospital, and thus they begin their fake relationship.

Why It’s Worth Watching? – Chizuru is easily the waifu of the season. What’s more is because most of the characters in this show are so unlikable, it makes her shine all the more. The main guy is spineless, but it still has its nice moments as a romance show.

deca dence anime

Deca-Dence

Driven to the point of extinction by creatures known as the Gadoll, humanity now lives out of a large mobile fortress known as Deca-Dence. Inside, the residents are separated into Gears, warriors that fight the Gadoll, and Tankers, who maintain the fortress. Natsume, a Tanker, has dreams of becoming a Gear, but is forced into armor repair where she meets a surly senpai named Kaburagi that has more skills than he lets on.

Why It’s Worth Watching? – Deca-Dence gave everyone a major juke. We all thought it would be an Attack on Titan, but a twist revealed pretty much in the second episode derailed that completely. It made the show into something wholly unique in its own right and presented a new mystery element that you want to unravel.

uzaki wants to hang out anime

Uzaki-Chan Wants to Hang Out

Sakurai Shinichi just wants a little peace and quiet, but his senpai Uzaki Hana wants to hang out. This peppy, loud, and well endowed woman just wants to spend time together and tease him. Will Shinichi get the peace and quiet he desires? No.

Why It’s Worth Watching? – Uzaki-chan has a bad habit of trying to reuse the same joke a bit too much, but it is a relatively chill and occasionally funny show. It’s not a hardcore serious romance, and the characters are cute enough.

super hxeros anime

Super HxEros

Earth was on the verge of disaster as aliens invaded and began to drain the sexual energy of Earth’s humans. However, heroes appeared that use H powers and erotic power in order to fight them back. Retto and Kirara are childhood friends that, after rekindling their relationship, have both been drafted into the Super HxEros organization.

Why It’s Worth Watching? – Okay, listen. No one is saying this show isn’t trash, but it is fun trash, okay? Sexual comedies are not for everyone, but if they make you laugh, then it just hits.
