The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya light novel

How to Watch The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya Anime in Order

At a glance, The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya seems like a pretty straightforward series to watch. First season, second season, and a movie that wraps it all up neatly as well as well as alternate side series. However, like many anime series that we have covered in this “How to Watch” series of articles, the show is deceptive. You see, the first season of Haruhi in particular was aired outside of chronological order. Some argue that it preserves the mystery and improves the pacing of the series.

However, watching the Haruhi series in its original broadcast order does leave the audience having to put things together themselves. If you watch chronologically, it will feed the plot straight to you. If nothing else, a chronological order watch makes for a pretty good rewatch opportunity for fans. We, however, will cover how to watch both ways.

The final movie is a good closer to the series and considered one of the best parts of it, so be sure not to skip it.

Do I Really Have to Watch All the Endless Eight?

There is a very real chance you are watching this series for the now notorious Endless Eight arc in which it is eight episodes of basically the same thing. However, no, you do not need to watch them all. Watching the first, second, and last of the endless eight block is exactly enough to capture the tone those episodes are trying to convey and what you need to know for the rest of the series.

That concludes our how to watch guide for the main universe. There are a few side and alternate tidbits to enjoy, but they contribute nothing to the main plot and you can watch them at your leisure.
