Akame ga Kill
Tatsumi is a naive boy from a rural village that makes the trip to the city in order to join the military and help his hometown. However, after he is rejected, he ends up joining Night Raid, a group of assassins part of a revolutionary movement to overthrow the government. From there, he must fight a brutal and increasingly bloody shadow war.
Both feature relatively weak, but idealistic characters that set off on a journey. While Tatsumi isn’t particularly looking for Night Raid, like Elizabeth in the Seven Deadly Sins, they are also an organization made out to be bad people, but are actually the heroes of the series. Both series also feature a hefty cast with unique personalities as well as powers.
One Piece
With his dying breath, legendary Pirate King Gol D. Roger let the world know about his treasure, setting in motion the Grand Age of Pirates. Among the many crews that set out to look for the legendary One Piece treasure is Monkey D. Luffy, a young man that has assembled a rag-tag crew to sail the Grand Line and hunt down One Piece.
Both One Piece and Seven Deadly Sins have that same shounen action and humor to them. However, what ultimately makes them so similar is that they take something classic (like pirates or knights) and then reinvents into something more unique. In each series we also follow a rag-tag group of misfits that are shown off in a vibrant animation style.
Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood
Talented in the art of alchemy, brothers Edward and Al Elric tried to bring their mother back from the dead, something that goes against all alchemic principles. When things go horribly wrong, Edward loses his left leg and Al loses his whole body, only saved after his brother sacrifices an arm to bind his soul to a suit of armor. Three years later, the brothers set out on a journey to find a mythical relic that may be able to return Al to his body once again. However, throughout their travels, the brothers find themselves pulled into a series of events that threaten everyone.
While both have their moments of childishness for comedy, Seven Deadly Sins and Fullmetal Alchemist succeed in creating more mature shounen adventure series where the characters explore huge and well-written worlds filled with a variety of characters.
Rage of Bahamut
Thousands of years ago, ancient dragon Bahamut terrorized the world. However, when gods, humans, and demons allied themselves to prevent the world’s destruction, they sealed him away, splitting the key among them so he would be eternally imprisoned. After the dragon was sealed, humanity returned to normal. However, things are about to get very abnormal for bounty hunter Favaro when he meets a mysterious women that holds half the key to Bahamut’s seal.
Rage of Bahamut takes place in a similar vast medieval world like Seven Deadly Sins. However, the powers that beings have are more grounded and the series tells a more focused story. You may also enjoy the bit of flippancy that is shared between the characters as well.

Soon after, he becomes friends with Alibaba, a young merchant that has ambitions of wealth, after he destroys his supply cart. In order to pay of the damages, Alibaba suggests the supremely powerful Aladdin helps him conquer a dungeon full of danger and wealth.
Both Magi and Seven Deadly Sins feature a vaguely medieval world that is rich with fantasy elements. This world is, in turn, shown off by the one long epic adventure that the characters embark on. While at a glance, both seen somewhat appropriate for all audiences, they both go on to explore some darker themes.
Fairy Tail
While looking to enhance her magic, celestial mage Lucy meets an energetic fire mage name Natsu. After finding out he is a member of the famous wizard guild Fairy Tail that she has long admired, the pair travel home so Lucy can join. Together with her new guildmates, Lucy and Natsu embark on adventures to help people, make money, and explore their vast magical world.
Both feature a male and female lead that meet conveniently and end up being fast friends. While the male lead is strong, the female is determined, something that causes them to each help each other on their adventures where they continue to meet the male lead’s friends and allies.
Yona of the Dawn
After having her luxurious life shattered by the betrayal of her cousin, Princess Yona is forced to escape with her childhood friend Son Hak. However, leaving her palace forces her to see the poverty and strife that really makes up her beloved kingdom. Now she must journey to not only regain her rightful throne, but to return her kingdom to its former glory.
Both Yona and Seven Deadly Sins follow the story of a princess that was chased out of her kingdom by betrayers. She, in turn, journeys in order to find allies to help her regain it. However, Sins is more comedy while Yona is must more drama-oriented.
Maria the Virgin Witch
Maria is a powerful young witch living in France during the Hundred Year War with her two familiars. After watching countless innocents swept away in the chaos, she attempts to use her magic to bring peace. Unfortunately, this attracts the attention of the heavens and they declare that her powers will be taken away if she loses her virginity or if she continues to intervene.
In both Sins and Maria, the stories take place in a world where magic exists. Both female leads end up trying to help their worlds, but stumble along the way. Despite their helpfulness, they are also considered and enemy of their country. Setting and characters aside, Maria also has the clean and fluid animation style that makes Seven Deadly Sins so beautiful.
Hunter x Hunter
Twelve-year-old Gon Freecss is determined to become a world-class Hunter, a skilled individual that performs all manner of dangerous tasks, just like his long-absent father. However, Gon finds that the path to achieving his goals is more challenging than he could have ever imagined, but in order to overcome it, Gon recruits some powerful friends.
What Hunter x Hunter and Seven Deadly Sins has most in common is the lovely ability to go from childish to super dark in the blink of the eye. Hunter x Hunter does indeed seem like your standard world-traveling shounen adventure show, but it has its very brutal moments.
For Fans of the Overpowered Characters
Rokka – Braves of the Six Flowers
According to legend, the revival of the Demon God will cause the Goddess to appoint six heroes, called Braves, to prevent the world from becoming a living hell. Adlet Mayer, the self-proclaimed strongest man in the world, travels to Piena in hopes of becoming a Brave. After being briefly jailed for causing trouble, he is indeed called and he sets off on a journey with the princess, another Brave, to defeat the Demon God. However, when all six Braves assemble, there are seven in total and the others soon suspect Adlet is a fraud.
Both series follow a group of incredibly strong heroes of different powers and attitudes. While Seven Deadly Sins does many typical shounen things, Rokka becomes a mystery about how one of them is possibly a traitor.
Black Clover
After being abandoned at the same church, Asta and Yuno grew up together. Together they also grew up aiming for the same title – The Wizard King, the strongest wizard in the kingdom. However, it soon became apparent that while Yuno has skill with magic, Asta couldn’t use it at all. This all changed when they were attacked and Asta was given a strange grimoire that granted him the ability to nullify magic.
Unlike Seven Deadly Sins, Black Clover starts off following one of the weakest of incredibly strong people. However, as shounen shows go, he grows into his incredible power over time. Both series maintain a more fantasy vibe to the world and have endless quirky characters to enjoy.
My Hero Academia
After the sudden appearance of super powers, or “quirks,” now 80 percent of humanity has some kind of power. With some Quirk users turning to crime, it gave rise to super heroes that help the police keep the peace. Since he was a child, Izuku Midoriya has idolized super heroes, especially the symbol of peace, All Might, but he is devastated to learn that he won’t manifest a Quirk himself. Still, he studies super heroes and is determined to become one. After a chance encounter with All Might, Midoriya learns that there still may be a chance for him to be a hero after all.
While My Hero Academia is set in a modern setting with a distinct superhero theme, like Seven Deadly Sins, you will find that the core group is quite overpowered compared to others. Furthermore, the series both have a light-hearted air about them, but can bring the darkness when it comes to action.
Naruto
Orphaned at a young age and ostracized by his village due to the nine-tailed fox demon that was sealed within him at birth, Naruto aims for the top. His dream is to eventually become the leader of his village, the Hokage. However, first he must actually become a ninja and gain strength enough to rise to this pinnacle.
You could say Seven Deadly Sins compares to all the big shounen shows. You have a large cast of characters, all of them become wildly overpowered given enough time, and they all feature great action sequences. It is just that ninjas differ from knights.
Demon Slayer
After the death of his father, Tanjirou has taken up the role of the man of the house, supporting his mother and five siblings. However, after selling charcoal in town, he returns to tragedy. All his family was brutally slaughtered, save for one of his sisters. Unfortunately, she has been attacked by a demon and mingled their blood, turning her into a demon as well. However, she still shows signs of humanity, thrusting Tanjirou onto a quest to find a way to change his sister back and preserve what is left of his family.
While the settings of the show are vastly different. If you enjoyed the unique characters in Seven Deadly Sins, Demon Slayer is flush with them as well, though they have a more Feudal Japanese flair to them. You get interesting characters and epic fights in both series.
