If they need to be warriors that everyone can get behind, the fastest way to endear them to people, it seems, is to slap and eye patch on it. Losing an eye has to be a pretty traumatic ordeal, and once you have gone through that, you’d have to imagine you can go through anything. So who are our picks for the most badass eye patch-wearing mofos?

Best Anime Characters With Eye Patches

Kenpachi from Bleach

Kenpachi from Bleach

Even if you are not a Bleach fan, Kenpachi is one of the most recognizable eye patch characters out there. All Bleach characters are made to be unique, but Kenpachi is rather tame in appearance. Yet his wild attitude and superior strength makes fans flock to him.

Minene from Future Diary

Minene from Future Diary

Future Diary is filled with legitimately insane characters, and Minene is no different. While she does tame as the series goes on, she is a whirlwind of cruel violence. She will literally do anything to kill her prey, even blow up half a school. However, surprisingly after she gets her eye patch, she becomes slightly less psychotic.

King Bradley from Full Metal Alchemist

King Bradley from Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood

As the leader of the state alchemists and later the main antagonist of the series, you kind of need to make King Bradley both normal and intimidating in his look, otherwise it gives everything away.  The mix of mustache and eye patch on that broad face does just that. However, even before you know King Bradley’s true motives, you can kind of guess. No one is that good at fighting without being important to the plot in some way.

rikka chunibyou anime

Rikka from Love, Chunibyou, and Other Delusions

Rikka may not be the most “badass” in this list, but if we are being honest, she is many anime fans. The chunibyou condition makes us think that we are somehow special or have a hidden power, and that’s what inflicts Rikka. She believes she has a god in her eye so thus she keeps an eye patch over it. Instead of being badass, she’s just adorable.

Asuka from Neon Genesis Evangelion

Asuka from Neon Genesis Evangelion

However, while in much of Evangelion, she doesn’t have her eye patch, once the event happens that allows her to get it see her renewed in vigor. As one of the best warriors of NGE, it is her much needed battle scar.

Lavi from DGray Man

Lavi from D. Gray Man

As the successor to the Bookman clan, Lavi has the job of recording history as it unfolds. That also seems like a job that would benefit from two eyes, right? However, while why Lavi only has one eye has never been acknowledged, you see him in his trademark eye patch from a very young age in the flashbacks. Still, it gives him an edge in character design in a show that has many unique character designs.

Najenda from Akame ga Kill

Najenda from Akame ga Kill

Despite a lack of actual action on her part in the anime series, you are lead to believe that Najenda was a badass. She used to stand toe to toe with Esdeath, and because of that, you presume she was injured bad enough to lose a significant amount of battle skill. Yet, Najenda, like her eye patch suggests, is still strong and an excellent leader. Although, the most notable thing about her in this series is her ability to survive.

gangsta anime

Worick from Gangsta

Despite being one of the more cheerful characters in Gangsta, Worick lives in a brutal world. Once he was from a wealthy family, though treated badly for being illegitimate. Even with that wealth, it was during this time that he had his eye burnt out, and thus donned the eye patch. While he may be tough, he is also pretty. Pretty enough to be a pretty in-demand gigalo.

Megumin from Konosuba

Megumin from Konosuba

Not unlike Rikka mentioned above, Megumin wears her eye patch more because of delusions than an actual need. However, unlike Rikka, she is not just cute. Megumin has some power behind her person, even if she can only use her explosions once per day.

Pip from Hellsing Ultimate

Pip from Hellsing Ultimate

A cooler French character there never was. As a mercenary, you can expect Pip to be tough, but you are given the distinct pleasure of his flirty and weird personality. The great thing about mercenary characters is that they are not bound by uniforms for their organization. So compared to other Hellsing soldiers, Pip in his sweet hat-eye patch-cigarette combo is just the coolest.

kakashi-hatake-from-naruto

Kakashi from Naruto

While not an eye patch in the traditional sense, Kakashi’s eye-hiding style still functions the same. However, unlike many one-eyed characters in which you never really see what is under the patch, Kakashi shows it off frequently while fighting as that is where he keeps his sharingan.

Nobunaga from Drifters

Nobunaga from Drifters

Although perhaps one of the most famous figures from feudal Japan, Nobunaga in the Drifters world is happy to sit back and be an adviser rather than a leader. He even states it by his own admission. While most traditional representations of Nobunaga don’t have him sporting an eye patch, it certainly adds allure.

Hilda from Outlaw Star

Hilda from Outlaw Star

Ol’ “Hot Ice” Hilda is a confusing case at a glance since she becomes Rachael with two eyes and no eye patch. However, Hilda did indeed lost both an eye and an arm taking out a powerful Pirate Guild. In this case, not just does the eye patch represent her prowess as a warrior, but her cunning. Hilda plays everything close to the vest so even her friends don’t really know her. Can you say you really know someone if you never look into both their eyes?

Kaede from Inuyasha

Kaede from Inuyasha

With all the arrows that go flying in the world of Inuyasha, it is a surprise that most people don’t have a few eyes missing. Although, to be fair, a demon and not an arrow did get her eye. While Kaede isn’t the most badass people, to live as long as she has in Feudal Japan, as well as one overrun by demons, you have to have a few moves.
