Oh, anime. You can be so wonderfully weird. Everything from the plot all the way down to the minor details can get so odd. One of those fun details can be the hair. Anime has quite an odd relationship with hair, both colors and styles, but it can help craft a truly memorable character. If you want to see what unique hair anime can offer up, we got you.
Anime Characters With The Best Hair
Franky from One Piece
The longer you watch One Piece, the more insane you will see Franky’s hair get. That’s why out of all the odd hair in One Piece, I picked his. It can be wings, pig tails, other character’s hair, and even a cannon. I think really Oda just wanted an excuse to draw different hair style’s, though.
Gen from Dr. Stone
Gen’s hair style is a choice. Not a choice I would make, but a choice that his character apparently made according to the author. You’d think as a mentalist, he would have the perception to decide that two different colors as well as two different lengths is going to make you look a bit mental.
Kenpachi from Bleach
How does one even describe Kenpachi’s hair? Are they dreads? Are they cornrows? Are they an amalgamation of both by someone who has seen neither? The world may never know.
Sunny from Toriko
Not unlike Gintama or Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure, every character in Toriko has their thing that makes them weird. For Sunny, that is his hair. However, this isn’t just a fashion choice. Every hair color in that bag of skittles has a different use to him. However, all of his hair has strands on every strand that extend out and basically taste whatever they touch. How violating.
Yugi from Yugioh
You know those old medieval religious paintings where they just painted a yellow circle behind the subject’s head to show divinity or a halo? Yugi’s hair reminds me of that, but with purple. Considering Yugi is kind of a dork and Yami is actually the cool one, it is weird that Yugi has such hip colored and styled hair.
Rikuo from Nura: Rise of the Yokai Clan
You take that slicked back style, Rikuo. You take that slick back right to the extreme and all the other clans will respect you. God help anyone walking too close behind him, though. They will get poked.
Rengoku from Demon Slayer
One of the little known facts about the world of Demon Slayer is that every character with any modicum of power is specifically required to have weird hair. (Note: That’s not a real fact.)
Initially, I was going to put Zenitsu on here as he looks like an anime example of why your parents didn’t let you play with scissors as a kid, but eventually Rengoku won out. His hair is not only oddly colored, but oddly spiked as well. You know what sets it all off, though? It’s those forked eyebrows.
Grevil from Gosick
There’s nothing wrong with anime pompadours. They are glorious. There is, however, something wrong with this fake pompadour, though. It’s even more odd considering you find it in a mystery anime as well.
Rangyou Kiryuin from Kill la Kill
As an antagonist, Rangyou demands hairstyle that comes with a certain amount of presence. The presence of rainbows, that is. Even without the rainbows, the hair bat wings is still pretty odd.
Ritsuko from Shiki
Shiki holds true to the tradition of rural mountain villagers all having just incredibly stupid hair.
Just kidding, all you rural mountain villagers out there!
Regardless, Ritsuko and actually many more characters from this series all have the wildest hair. In Ritsuko’s case, it’s business in the front and years of neglect with a hair brush and scissors in the back.
Hagakure from Danganronpa
Danganronpa is notorious for its over-the-top character designs. They are always turned up to eleven with various things. For Hagakure, it is his dreads. This is not such an odd hair style, even in anime, but the fact that they are nearly twice as wide as him make it odd.
Giorno from Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure
You know, the longer you watch Jojo, the stranger that hair gets. It is pretty normal in Part One and Part Two. Then you have Polnaroff looking like Paul from Tekken and Jotaro’s hair hat. Eventually you get to Giorno, who’s hair style I once called nonsensically impossible until I saw some guy recreate it on his head. Still, it’s a great style if you have some wasps living up there or need to store very small liquor bottle, but not for much else.
Bo-bobo from Bobobo-bo Bo-bobo
I got the appropriate amount of “Bo’s,” I checked.
Anyway, Bobobo’s hair is strange perhaps by Japanese styles. It is an blonde afro, which is odd even by afro standards as well. One could argue that the weirdest hair on his body is is nose hair that he uses for martial arts. However, his afro is 24-carat gold, though not solid as I’ve seen him open it up and hide character up in there.
Ran from Detective Conan
Let’s end this with a fun one. At a glance, Ran’s hair seems pretty normal. It is an appropriate color, and doesn’t have any powers. However, catch it in the right angle, and you see the oddity.
The hair horn.
It is pretty infamous at this point, spawning a lot of creative fanart and ponderous theories. It’s likely such a focus because it comes from an anime where one expects normality. Not hair horns that could make adolescent unicorns jealous.
