I Got a Cheat Skill in Another World and Became Unrivaled in The Real World anime

Anime Like I Got a Cheat Skill in Another World and Became Unrivaled in The Real World, Too

As he was ugly, fat, and disappointing, Yuuya has been the constant target for bullies. Even his parents and siblings treated him like an outcast. However, Yuuya’s grandfather was the only source of affection in his life, but he eventually passed away.

Being left his grandfather’s home, Yuuya discovers a strange door that opens to another world. Inside, he finds himself in the home of a sage and discovers a number of powerful weapons. Using these to defeat dangerous creatures in the surrounding forest, Yuuya discovers that he can level up, gain equipment, and even sell items upon leaving the world for real life currency.

After a day of adventure, Yuuya wakes up to discover that leveling up in the other world has leveled up his body in the real world too.

This isekai may not be trying too hard, but what it is is actually pretty enjoyable without being obnoxious. Although, I do wish it would decide between following a real world plot and following an isekai plot. lookism anime

Lookism

As he is short, fat, and unattractive, Park Hyung Suk has been constantly bullied by his classmates and discriminated against based on his looks. In order to escape his bullies, he decides to transfer to a vocational preparatory school for a new start.

However, after moving into an apartment by himself near his new school, he wakes up in a different body – one that is tall, handsome, and strong. However, his old body is still asleep on the floor next to him. Hyung Suk soon discovers that he can switch between bodies by going to sleep.

Now he must learn to navigate the popularity that his hot new body has brought as well as unravel why and how he started body switching in the first place.

While I Got a Cheat Skill in Another World and Lookism both feature fat, brutally bullied boys who very suddenly get hot and attend a new school, that is about all they have in common.

I Got a Cheat Skill in Another World splits focus between his new life as a cool boy and its isekai plot. Lookism focuses solely on the main character’s new popularity at school while also lightly exploring the mystery of how her got that hot new body.

That said, both series have the main character remain a great guy even with their stunning new looks. Neither are corrupted by popularity, and that often makes them more beloved.

Seichii being help by a pink gorilla with anime girl eyes in the Fruit of Evolution anime

The Fruit of Evolution – Before I Knew It, My Life Had It Made

Seiichi Hiragi is a fat loser who has been outcasted and bullied at school. However, one day it was announced by a being claiming to be God that they would all be transported to another world, but had to wait for the summoning to be completed.

The school formed up into groups, but Seiichi was shunned.

This caused him to be transported elsewhere when they went to a new world. Hungry, he ate a fruit that turned out to be the fruit of evolution, propelling his life to new heights.

Both I Got a Cheat Skill in Another World and The Fruit of Evolution are isekai anime about a main character that was a chubby loser, shunned and bullied by his class, who literally leveled up into a hottie.

However, The Fruit of Evolution is a traditional isekai where the main character is stuck in that world. Both series have those main characters earning the affection of women with their good attitude, overpowered abilities, and good looks. Although, The Fruit of Evolution is a little more light-hearted and silly with its plot.

kiss him not me anime

Kiss Him, Not Me

Chubby Kae Serinuma is an avid fujoshi who secretly ships her male classmates. However, after her favorite anime character dies, she becomes so stressed that she loses weight rapidly.

Upon returning to school, her classmates, including the attractive men she ships, realize how attractive she really is.

There’s only one problem, while the boys vie for her affections, she just wants them to turn those affections towards each other.

What I Got a Cheat Skill in Another World is to wish fulfillment for boys, Kiss Him, Not Me is to wish fulfillment for girls.

Although Kiss Him, Not Me is not an isekai anime, it features a chubby main character who drops a lot of weight and gets hot overnight in a similarly unbelievable way. As she is a girl, she immediately has a bunch of interested men on deck, although she ships them romantically with each other.

I Got a Cheat Skill in Another World does have a bit of action, but if you enjoyed the set up, want something more comedic, and don’t mind a reverse harem with actual romance elements instead, then Kiss Him, Not Me is a fun watch.

masamune's revenge anime

Masamune-kun’s Revenge

As a child, Masamune Makabe confessed his love to the wealthy and beautiful Aki Adagaki. However, she brutally rejected him and nicknamed him “Piggy” due to his chubby appearance.

Fleeing to his grandfather’s home in the country, Masamune toiled endlessly to become fit. Once he became skinny and handsome, he returns to his old neighborhood in order to wreak vengeance on the girl that wronged him.

With the help of Aki’s maid, Masamune sets out to make her fall in love with him so that he can be the one to break her heart.

Both I Got a Cheat Skill in Another World and Masamune-kun’s Revenge follow chubby boys that turned into hotties. However, Masamune-kun’s Revenge takes the more believable route instead of using the power of isekai magic.

As Masamune-kun’s Revenge keeps things realistic, his transformation takes several years and the negative event that spurred the transformation affected him negatively as a person. He became a bit vain and, well, revenge-driven.

While both series have their school life focus, Masamune-kun’s Revenge is a bit more slice of life focused and not as drama focused as you might expect.

accel world anime

Accel World

Haruyuki Arita is a loser at school, constantly ridiculed by his peers. Like so many, his only escape is into the virtual world of video games.

One day, his video game skills attract the attention of Kuroyukihime, the school’s popular student council vice president. She introduces Haru to a new game called Brain Burst that accelerates the human cognitive process to the point of which time appears to stop.

However, it is really actually an Augmented Reality Massively Multiplayer Online (ARMMO) Fighting Game where people fight each other in fierce duels in order to obtain Burst Points which can be spent for acceleration abilities in the real world.

Was what intrigued you about I Got a Cheat Skill in Another World the ability to level up and augment your abilities, but you wish that the main character remained a chubby guy that people loved for who he was on the inside instead of becoming a standard-issue hottie? Well, good news! Because that is pretty much Accel World.

Both series have the main characters discover secret ways to augment their abilities. I Got a Cheat Skill in Another World is an isekai whereas Accel World is a sci-fi series about augmented reality games.

Accel World keeps the main character chubby, but still has a romance for him. Like Kaori liked Yuuya even when he was still chubby, that same dynamic is present in Accel World, though it is often more focused on action.

uncle from another world anime using his magic

Uncle From Another World

Takafumi’s uncle has been in a coma for 17 years after being hit by a truck when he was 17. However, after all this time, he has woken up.

As Takafumi discovers, while his uncle was in a coma in his world, he was transported to a fantasy land and became a great hero despite constantly being confused for an orc due to his appearance.

Now, Takafumi has to room with this man who needs to catch up on 20 years of gaming and anime culture while still possessing literal magical powers.

I Got a Cheat Skill in Another World and Uncle From Another world both focus on characters who went to a fantasy world, came back to the real world, but still had all their powers from adventuring.

However, while I Got a Cheat Skill in Another World is wish fulfillment in its finest form, Uncle From Another World turns the whole affair into the comedy.

aesthetica of a rogue hero anime

Aesthetica of a Rogue Hero

Decades ago, Samon Syndrome began to manifest in young teens, giving them the ability to travel to other worlds. Many of them remained in those other worlds, but some did eventually return with their fantasy powers still intact.

Akatsuki Ousawa is one such individual who forwent a peaceful life after saving his fantasy world and returned to Earth. While he has his powers intact, he also brought back Miu, the daughter of the demon lord he defeated.

Passing her off as his sister, the pair join Babel, a special school designed to contain, study, and train those who returned from other worlds.

While I Got a Cheat Skill in Another World features a main character that can go back and forth between the real world and a fantasy one, keeping his powers in both worlds, Aesthetica of a Rogue Hero is about an isekai’d hero who came back with all his powers (and the demon lord’s daughter).

While both series have a real world premise that is basically just following the main character going to school, where these two series truly begin to differ is tone. Yuuya is a nice young man that would never link the bladders of three girls with magic so they would lewdly pee themselves at the same time. Akatsuki would and does.

While Aesthetica of a Rogue Hero has plenty of action, its focus on ecchi elements and its endlessly cocky main character make it a pretty different experience.

Saving 80,000 Gold in Another World for My Retirement anime

Saving 80,000 Gold in Another World for My Retirement

After accidentally falling off a cliff, Mitsuha wakes up in a fantasy land.

Upon saving a girl from a wolf attack, she discovers that she didn’t die in her previous life, but rather accidentally ripped away a piece of a God’s power that lets her transport herself between that world and modern Japan.

With this magnificent power, she decides to take items from modern Japan to sell in the fantasy world. She has calculated that making 80,000 gold in the fantasy land will be enough to retire if she were to get trapped in either world forever.

Now begins her money-making schemes!

While Yuuya uses his adventures in another world as a way to kind of passively improve his finances, I Got a Cheat Skill in Another World isn’t really about him making money there. Alternatively, Saving 80,000 Gold in Another World for My Retirement is all about being able to travel between worlds and using that to make money.

Since the main character in Saving 80,000 Gold in Another World for My Retirement is in it to make money, there isn’t much action and things are kept pretty light. As such, the enjoyment factor of these two series is pretty different. Saving 80,000 Gold is more for people that just want to see her navigate bringing goods over from our world to a fantasy world without raising too much suspicion.

gate anime

Gate – Thus The JSDF Fought There

Japanese Self-Defense Force solider and otaku Youji Itami is in the Ginza district of Tokyo feeding his hobby one afternoon when a gate to another world opens and medieval soldiers flood modern day Japan.

While Itami, in conjunction with the local police, manage to save many civilian lives, his hero status forces him to go beyond the gate with his fellow soldiers to explore a mysterious new world filled with swords, magic, elves, and dragons.

I Got a Cheat Skill in Another World and Gate are isekai anime that work on the similar premise of a fantasy land that you can come and go from through an entrance in the real world. However, whereas the entrance is in a private residence in I Got a Cheat Skill in Another World, Gate features it very publicly in the middle of a commercial district.

As such, the scopes differ here. I Got a Cheat Skill in Another World features the main character alone adventuring in another world whereas Gate is about a Japanese Self-Defense Force expedition into another world. Both series balance well between action and harem gathering/gushing, though only Gate has modern military hardware absolutely stomping fantasy war technology and fantasy creatures.

im standing on a million lives anime

I’m Standing on a Million Lives

Bored with the world that surrounds him, loner Yotsuya Yusuke is one day transported to a new world with two girls from his class.

There, he finds out that they have been playing a game with ten increasingly difficult rounds. After beating each round, they get to pose a question to the game master before heading back home.

On this, the third round, Yusuke finds himself excited for the first time in a long time, only for his battle class to be rolled as a weak farmer.

Together with his teammates, they struggle to survive and move forward or face certain death.

Both I Got a Cheat Skill in Another World and I’m Standing on a Million Lives feature main characters that often go to another world, have a battle, and then go home. However, I’m Standing on a Million Lives is structured more as a game where they complete a mission and then are transported back.

Both series feature main characters with problems. While I Got a Cheat Skill in Another World features the main character overcoming his physical and monetary problems in through his adventure to have a pretty nice real life, I’m Standing on a Million Lives is more about the main character’s mental change. He is what you would call a big anti-hero at first, but his character growth is all about his softening views towards others. As such, he comes off as a bit of an edgelord at first.
