After losing his leg, Belgrieve retired from being an adventurer and returned to his hometown in the country. One day while collecting herbs in the mountains, he stumbles upon a crying abandoned baby girl.
Taking her home, Belgrieve raised the child he named Angeline as his own. However, with a talent for swordplay, he sends his daughter off for further training at the Adventurer’s Guild in the capital.
After five years, Angeline has become an S-Class adventurer and guild work keeps her endlessly busy. Unfortunately, all she wants to do is take an extended vacation to finally go home and see her father again.
A wholesome father-daughter anime is always welcome, but I’m sure everyone is nervous as to whether it would develop into a romance or not. (It doesn’t) If you are looking for more anime recommendations like My Daughter Left the Nest and Returned an S-Rank Adventurer, head on down below.

For Fans of Wholesome Father-Daughter Relationships
Usagi Drop
Daikichi Kawachi is a 30-year-old bachelor that works long hours at a respectable job. However, upon hearing the news of his grandfather’s death, he returns home for the funeral only to find out that his grandfather had an illegitimate daughter named Rin.
Shy and unapproachable, this young child is shunned by the other members of the family.
In his anger that no one will take her in, Daikichi steps up himself and begins his days anew as a single father with no prior childcare experience.
Both Usagi Drop and My Daughter Left the Nest and Returned an S-Rank Adventurer are childcare anime about single men who end up raising daughters who are not their own. However, Usagi Drop is not set in a fantasy land.
While it has its moments, Usagi Drop is more of a slice of life anime with drama elements than an adventure comedy like My Daughter Left the Nest and Returned an S-Rank Adventurer. Unlike Angeline who was raised from birth, the child in Usagi Drop was orphaned by a death and shunned by her family, so she has some issues that need working through.
Kakushigoto
Kakushi Goto is relatively well known for the lewd manga that he creates. However, when his daughter Hime was born, he vowed to keep his profession a secret.
This is the story of the great lengths he goes through to keep his ecchi manga profession a secret from his beloved daughter.
Although not in a fantasy land, both Kakushigoto and My Daughter Left the Nest and Returned an S-Rank Adventurer are wholesome anime about a father-daughter relationship with a similar message of daughters thinking their fathers are the best, even if they are not.
However, Kakushigoto built its plot around Kakushi trying to hide his job from his daughter rather than My Daughter Left the Nest and Returned an S-Rank Adventurer that built its plot father-daughter adventures.
Sweetness and Lightning
After the death of his wife, high school math teacher Kouhei Inuzuka is left to care for his young daughter, Tsumugi. He does his best, but his busy schedule and poor culinary skills limit them to eating convenience store food separately.
One day, his daughter expresses an interest to eat together after talking to one of his students in the park, Kotori, who deeply enjoys food. He rushes over to the restaurant owned by the student’s mother, but she is not there.
While Kotori tries her best to cook for them, her skills are lacking. However, together, Inuzuka-sensei, Tsumugi, and Kotori learn to expand their cooking skills.
Do you like wholesome father-daughter relationships in anime with zero chance of them turning into some weird romance later? Well then, both My Daughter Left the Nest and Returned an S-Rank Adventurer and Sweetness and Lightning are for you.
However, while My Daughter Left the Nest and Returned an S-Rank Adventurer is more of an adventure comedy anime in a fantasy land, Sweetness and Lightning is modern-set and is more of a food anime since it is about cooking for his young daughter.
For Fans of Parenting in a Fantasy Land
If It’s For My Daughter, I’d Even Defeat a Demon Lord
Despite his age, Dale is a skillful adventurer with quite the reputation for competence. However, one day while he was on a job, he finds a young devil girl, weak and malnourished, with a dead parent nearby.
He decides to take her home and ultimately ends up adopting her. However, the question remains, why was she in the forest to begin with?
While My Daughter Left the Nest and Returned an S-Rank Adventurer focuses on a father and daughter when they are both adults, both it and If It’s For My Daughter, I’d Even Defeat a Demon lord are parenting anime set in fantasy world.
Both series focus on fathers who are or were adventurers raising daughters they found out in the woods. Those daughters also happen to have tremendous future potential and a bit of a secret lineage.
However, If It’s For My Daughter, I’d Even Defeat a Demon Lord only focuses on the daughter as a child, thus is more about cute fluffy moments and occasional action from the adventurer father.
Somali and the Forest Guardian
With humanity all but extinct after severe prosecution, the world is ruled over by spirits and all manner of strange creatures.
One day, a golem that serves as guardian of the forest meets a young human girl.
She has no memory of her parents, but the golem decides to at least seek out other humans to return her.
Both My Daughter Left the Nest and Returned an S-Rank Adventurer and Somali and the Forest Guardian are about men (or beings) who find a child in the woods. While My Daughter Left the Nest and Returned an S-Rank Adventurer quickly becomes about him raising the baby he found, Somali and the Forest Guardian is a journey-focused anime about a golem trying to find some humans to give this kid to.
While My Daughter Left the Nest and Returned an S-Rank Adventurer is an adventure comedy with some touching father-daughter relationship moments, Somali and the Forest Guardian is more about the build up. The pair start off as strangers, and on their journey you watch them build towards a cute and wholesome father-daughter relationship despite not being the same species. That said, Somali and the Forest Guardian is prone to a lot more melancholy.
The Family Circumstances of the Irregular Witch
Alyssa is a witch who lives alone in the forest. One day, she finds a human baby abandoned in a bush and, after no one returned for the baby girl, decided to take her home.
16 years later, the baby she named Viola is still incredibly attached to her mother. However, Viola grew into a woman of fine proportions that makes Alyssa look like her daughter rather than her mother.
Both The Family Circumstances of the Irregular Witch and My Daughter Left the Nest and Returned an S-Rank Adventurer work with the same concept, but with a different parenting dynamic.
Both series are about people who found abandoned babies in the woods and raised them. Those babies grew up to be tremendously powerful, and also wildly attached to their single parent. So, what My Daughter Left the Nest and Returned an S-Rank Adventurer is to a father-daughter relationship, The Family Circumstances of the Irregular Witch is to a mother-daughter relationship.
Mostly, they are light-hearted anime that lean pretty hard on a small handful of jokes. However, while My Daughter Left the Nest Manifests a more serious plot, The Family Circumstances of the Irregular Witch is still just a comedy.
For Fans of Easily Sidetracked Adventures
Chillin’ in My 30s After Getting Fired From The Demon King’s Army
Dariel is a dark soldier in the Demon King’s army – or rather, he was. After the son of the previous demon general took over, he swiftly fired Dariel for a lack of power and supposed usefulness.
Set adrift, Dariel rescues a girl from a monster in the woods and she takes him to her village. There, he discovers that he wasn’t actually a demon, but is a human – and an incredibly powerful one.
Now he pays the village back for all their kindness by helping them out.
Although they differ greatly in plot, in truth neither My Daughter Left the Nest and Returned an S-Rank Adventurer nor Chillin’ in my 30s After Getting Fired From The Demon King’s Army actually have a robust plot anyway. They are both fantasy anime that are more focused on light-hearted adventures, friendship, and family.
While both series have action and focus on the relationships that the characters build with others, they are often more comedy anime where the comedy comes from how ridiculously overpowered some characters are. Furthermore, those same characters also have mysterious origins that are explored as the series goes on.
If you liked the lighter sort of fantasy misadventures, but don’t necessarily need a whole anime built around a daughter’s fondness for her father, Chillin’ in My 30s is an excellent watch. Although Dariel does have his own overly attached love interest.
Banished From The Hero’s Party, I Decided to Live A Quiet Life in The Countryside
Red was once the member of a hero’s party that sought to destroy the Demon Lord Taraxon. However, while Red was powerful at first, his companions soon eclipsed him, and thus, pushed him out of the party.
Hoping for a more laid-back life, he moves to the country with a dream to start an apothecary. He hopes to keep his past as an adventurer a secret, but that becomes increasingly more difficult when an adventurer named Rit from his past asks to move in with him.
Both My Daughter Left the Nest and Returned an S-Rank Adventurer and Banished From The Hero’s Party are about the slow country life (and occasional adventures) of a now-retired hero.
Similar to Belgrieve, something happened to Red that made him retire from adventuring. So he decides to start a shop in a rural town. While he isn’t raising a daughter, Banished From the Hero’s Party is both a fantasy slice of life about starting an apothecary and a building romance between his old adventuring companion that moves in with him. So while not a wholesome father-daughter fantasy comedy like My Daughter Left the Nest and Returned an S-Rank Adventurer, it has a similar cute dynamic that makes it a joy to watch.
I’ve Somehow Gotten Stronger When I Improved My Farm-Related Skills
Al Wayne is a passionate farmer who spends his days tending his fields and occasionally helping his friends. However, in doing so, he ended up maxing out his level and integrating his farming skills into that, he becomes stronger than even legendary heroes.
Unfortunately, his immense power has caught the eye of the nation’s princess who gives him a large swathe of land in return for becoming an adventurer to help the nation.
In My Daughter Left the Nest and Returned an S-Rank Adventurer, the reoccurring joke is that Angeline wants to see her dad, but something always comes up that often prevents it. In I’ve Somehow Gotten Strong When I Improved My Farm-Related Skills, the reoccurring joke is that Al just wants to go home and farm, but the kingdom needs his overpowered skills to save them from peril.
These series use the same joke, lean on it heavily for awhile until the phase it out, and provide a light-hearted and fun (non-isekai) fantasy adventure. However, while My Daughter Left the Nest and Returned an S-Rank Adventurer has a wholesome father-daughter relationship, I’ve Somehow Gotten Stronger When I Improved My Farm-Related Skills is more a standard harem with an uninterested, but nice harem king.
