In Reborn to Master the Blade, Inglis wants to be a warrior, not a leader. In The Reincarnation of the Strongest Exorcist in Another World, Seika dedicates himself to cunning so he doesn’t get betrayed by only seeking power like he did in his previous life.
Both anime feature magic in their fights, but Seika in The Reincarnation of the Strongest Exorcist in Another World is very much a magic user and not a swordsman like Inglis is.
The Eminence in Shadow
Like most kids, Kagerou wanted to be a hero, but unlike most kids, he never grew out of that phase. He constantly trained his body to achieve it. In modern Japan, he was unable to achieve that goal, understanding that he could never reach enough power to be the type of hero he wanted to be.
However, when he was reborn in a new world, he pretends to be just another character in the world. He recruits people into his organization, Shadow Garden, and decides to target a sinister cult that is lurking in the shadows that he wishes to occupy.
The Eminence in Shadow and Reborn to Master the Blade are isekai anime in which the main character doesn’t want to be the “main character” of their world. They are both wildly powerful compared to their peers, but neither wants to lead nations with that power.
While Inglis is a battle maniac that just wants to fight, Cid thinks his minions in the shadow organization he founded are just humoring him when he pretends to be fighting an evil organization operating from the shadows. They actually are doing just that.
Both series love their big action and cute girls, The Shadow in Eminence adds a bit more depth, but both shows really offer the same thing.
Reincarnated as a Sword
After his death, a man is reincarnated into a new world. However, his body is not that of a human, but rather he is a legendary sword that, after leveling up his skills, becomes stuck firmly in the middle of a dangerous forest.
Begging for a wielder to come to him, he watches a slave caravan attacked by a two-headed bear. A young catgirl named Fran flees and happens across him with the pair teaming up to slay the bear and break her enslavement.
Essentially, both Reborn to Master the Blade and Reincarnated as a Sword are about main characters that really just want to fight. Shishou in Reincarnated as a Sword really just is a sword, so that is kind of all he can want.
However, while they both focus on cool sword fights with some occasional magic, Reincarnated as a Sword really doesn’t include the same ecchi moments that Reborn to Master the Blade adds at times.
Trapped in a Dating Sim – The World of Otome Games is Tough for Mobs
After starving himself to beat an otome game for his sister, office worker Leon falls down the stairs and dies. When he awakens again, he is a young son of a minor noble that wasn’t featured in the game.
Looking to live quietly as a nobody “mob” character, he is soon saddled with an arranged marriage he is against where he decides to use his knowledge of the game to get out of the match and reach for his own happiness.
Reborn to Master the Blade and Trapped in a Dating Sim start off with characters that have a same desire to not stand out. Leon just wants to graduate school, maybe marry someone he likes, and live comfortably. Of course, both anime have those main characters that don’t want to stand out immediately stand out in their surroundings. However, Inglis plays things down and Leon just often gets swept up in the flow of events.
A big difference is that combat in Trapped in a Dating Sim is more mech-based than sword-based.

The Misfit of Demon King Academy
After countless wars, Demon Lord Anos Voldigoad decided he would reincarnate into the future.
However, 2,000 years later, he has found that his descendants have become too used to peace and their magical powers weakened because of it.
Reincarnated with his full strength, the sheer magical power of Anos makes him a misfit at the Demon King Academy charged with educating the next generation in waning magical prowess.
While Reborn to Master the Blade has reincarnation after admitting regret on his death bed, The Misfit of Demon King Academy has a demon lord reincarnating into the far future of his world more because he was bored of peace.
Both series see the heroes reborn into the same world, and they spend much of their plot getting into fights while also investigating what happened to the world while they were gone.
Both anime series are also anime set at a magic school. However, Reborn to Master the Blade takes much longer to travel to school, The Misfit of Demon King Academy is a magic school anime from episode one.
The Strongest Sage with the Weakest Crest
When they are born, mages are each given a random and unchangeable crest that will effect their powers and potential.
Gaius, a man widely known as the strongest sage, reached the limit of his potential, but decided to reincarnate far into the future to attain a different crest. He is reborn as Mathias Hildesheimer thousands of years later and gets the crest he hoped to receive.
However, in this future, his crest has been slandered as the worst crest due to demons that have now infiltrated humanity and pull the strings in order to limit humanity’s magical potential.
Reborn to Master the Blade and The Strongest Sage with the Weakest Crest have main characters that led great past lives, but they always wanted to try something different. As such, they reincarnate into the far future to live out those dreams.
Interestingly enough, both anime are about main characters that wanted to focus on close combat, though Mathias was a mage in his previous life, not a leader like Inglis.
What you get in both series is a school life anime where a large chunk of the plot follows the main character unraveling why a specific aspect of their world is different than their previous time.
The Greatest Demon Lord Is Reborn as a Typical Nobody
The Demon Lord Varvatos is a power unrivaled. However, being at the top with no challenges and no one who is unafraid enough to be a friend is lonely, so he decides to reincarnate.
In his new life as a boy named Ard, he aims to have perfectly average powers, except that everyone in this new age has grown so weak.
While he remains overpowered, he has a singular goal of amassing meaningful friendships.
While Reborn to Master the Blade has Inglis want to be reincarnated to chase his own martial dreams, The Greatest Demon Lord is Reborn as a Typical Nobody has a more wholesome goal – he just wanted to make some friends.
That said, these series actually progress the same way. They make some friends, they have some action-heavy adventures, they eventually go to school where they are super overpowered, but pretend not to be.
For Fans of Gender-Bent Fantasy
She Professed Herself Pupil of the Wise Man
Kagami is a VRMMMO player of a game called Arch Earth Online. He is a veteran player that helped form a kingdom for mages and plays the wise old man.
However, one day he purchases an appearance change item with currency about to expire and tests out what it would be like if his character was a super cute girl.
After falling asleep, he finds himself still in the body of a girl and the game feels a little more real than it used to.
Reborn to Master the Blade and She Professed Herself Pupil of the Wise Man are both about very powerful individuals who get gender bent into the body of a cute (and similar looking) girl.
However, while Inglis is a sword fighter, Mira is very much still just a mage like she was before.
It is worth keeping in mind that while Reborn to Master the Blade is action-dense, She Professed Herself Pupil of the Wise Man focuses more on the characters being cute.
Life With an Ordinary Guy Who Reincarnated Into a Total Fantasy Knockout
On their way home from a mixer, average guy Tachibana and his handsome best friend Jinguuji are attacked by a naked goddess.
When they wake up in another world, she tells them that they are heroes and tasks them with killing a demon lord.
However, much to the chagrin of woman-hating Jinguuji, Tachibana has been transformed into a super cute girl!
Both anime are isekai of varying types about a man sent to a new world where he is now a girl. However, while Reborn to Master the Blade makes a few gender-bending jokes, Life With an Ordinary Guy Who Reincarnated Into a Total Fantasy Knockout has its plot fully committed to the joke.
There is less action in Total Fantasy Knockout as it focuses more on jokes.
