the dangers in my heart anime

Anime Like The Dangers in My Heart

Kyoutaro Ichikawa looks like a normal boy, but he has a danger in his heart – a dream of murder. He has aimed his violent tendencies at the class idol, Anna Yamada.

While reading in his haven, the library, he accidentally runs into Yamada, who comes there to secretly consume snacks. Through frequent observation, Ichikawa learns that this beautiful and popular girl is actually a huge ditz and frequently finds himself supporting her from the periphery in her ventures.

Over time, Ichikawa learns that he doesn’t actually want to kill Yamada, but rather, his desires were actually something much different.

This series was so wonderfully cringe with the main character at first, but there was actually something adorable waiting as a reward for those who pushed on through the edginess. If you are looking for more anime recommendations like The Dangers in My Heart, head on down below.

For Fans of Middle School Romance

Kubo Won't Let Me Be Invisible anime

Kubo Won’t Let Me Be Invisible

Junta Shiraishi has a special, if not sometimes inconvenient skill of being difficult for people to notice due to his lack of presence. However, while even the teacher fails to notice him, his desk neighbor Nagisa Kubo seems to never miss him.

Unfortunately, Kubo likes to tease him on a daily basis and put his near-invisibility to the test in nerve-wracking situations. However, her playful antics begin to evolve into what normal people would easy see as clear feelings for him.

Alongside being just so cute, The Dangers in My Heart and Kubo Won’t Let Me Be Invisible are very similar romances.

Both series take place between middle schoolers and move slowly as romances. However, you don’t miss the kissing or confessions because it is a joy just to watch the characters get to know a side of each other that no one else really gets to see.

While both series follow loner main characters, Shiraishi lacks the initial edgelord edge that Ichikawa had at first.

Takagi teasing Nishikata in the Skilled Teaser Takagi-san anime

Skilled Teaser Takagi-san

For Nishikata, no one knows him better than Takagi-san. Unfortunately for him, she uses this knowledge to unrelentingly tease him on a daily basis.

Nishikata vows to get revenge for all that blushing he has done, but is he good enough to overcome her skill?

Both The Dangers in My Heart and Skilled Teaser Takagi-san are both romances between middle schoolers. This means everything is more innocent and every relationship takes longer to progress. However, they both make up for that with an abundance of cute comedy.

While Ichikawa and Yamada seem to get along pretty well, Nishikata and Takagi have a little bit more of an aggressive relationship because of the teasing.

the girl i like forgot her glasses anime

The Girl I Like Forgot Her Glasses

By all accounts, Ai Mie is a little bit weird. However, her desk neighbor Kaede Komura finds everything she does adorable. His only wish is she would look at him with those beautiful eyes beneath her glasses.

One day, Komura notices Mie squinting and acting strangely. It turns out, she had forgotten her glasses and can barely function without them. Reaching out to her, Komura is more than happy to help her out, and as she continues to forget her glasses regularly, their relationship grows.

Both series are middle school romance stories that start with a specific hook. In The Dangers in My Heart, they bond through meetings while Yamada snacks in the library. In The Girl I Like Forgot Her Glasses, they bond over the male main character helping the girl who chronically forgets her glasses and can’t see well.

However, unlike other romance series, you get to see the relationship progress from acquaintances, to friends, to the girl falling in love with him and dropping not-so-subtle hints about it.

For Fans of In Love With The Popular Girl

komi cant communicate anime

Komi-san Can’t Communicate

It is the first day for incoming freshmen at the prestigious Itan Private High School. For Hitohito Tadano, he considers himself lucky to get in and angles to not make waves during his high school career.

However, he finds himself sitting next to the beautiful, beloved, yet cold and silent Shouko Komi, immediately earning the ire of his classmates.

After a series of events leads to him being left alone with her, he discovers that she is not cold, but suffers from extreme social anxiety that prevents her from speaking. After a long conversation through writing, he wants to help her reach her goal of making 100 friends.

You can’t exactly say that The Dangers in My Heart and Komi-san Can’t Communicate are satisfying romances because the actual romantic relationship moves at a snail’s pace.

However, what both series do well is making you really attached to the array of quirky characters. The comedy is good, but they also balance it out with cute moments that may not advance a romantic relationship, but are just a fun to watch.

Marin clinging to Wakana in My Dress Up Darling anime

My Dress-Up Darling

Living with his grandfather who makes beautiful Hina Dolls, Wakana Gojo has loved them since he was a child. He aspires to one day make Hina Dolls as good as his grandfather, but his dedication has made him a bit of a loner in school after a girl in his childhood said that boys shouldn’t like dolls.

After a run in with the beautiful and popular Marin Kitagawa, he discovers that she wants to cosplay a character from an eroge game.

However, her sewing skills leave something to be desired, and after seeing her passion, Gojo agrees to help her make her costume.

The Dangers in My Heart is actually masterful in that most of the characters introduced are different from how they are initially portrayed. Yamada is a cool beauty at a glance, but a clumsy foodie. Ichikawa is a big edgelord, but is actually really quite kind. It is a good example of not judging characters (or people) by how they look at a glance.

My Dress-Up Darling also plays with a similar concept. You wouldn’t expect such a popular gyaru-type to be both a big otaku and also into cosplay. No one would expect the loner kid to be really good at sewing or really into making hina dolls.

By seeing these other sides, the characters grow closer together in each anime and the loners start to come out of their shell. However, the romance moves quite slowly in both series as well.

sankarea-anime

Sankarea

After his cat gets run over, Chihiro is convinced that he can make a potion to resurrect him. On his task to do so, he meets a wealthy girl from his school who comes to an abandon spot to yell in a well about her troubles every day.

The two bond and she encourages him to continue his resurrection potion creation. Eventually, he succeeds after adding poisonous hydrangea leaves.

Sanka, however, doesn’t know it has worked, and decided to kill herself with what should be a poisonous potion. Suddenly, Chihiro has a beautiful zombie on his hands.

While The Dangers in My Heart abandoned Ichikawa’s edgy dream of killing Yamada pretty quickly, there is still much about the series that makes it similar to Sankarea.

Both series follow main characters with unusual interests. Ichikawa enjoys murder and forensics, Chihiro has a deep interest in zombies. Both characters are loners that, one day in a spot away from the public eye, meet a beautiful popular girl from their school. They bond secretly and a relationship eventually develops.

However, while The Dangers in My Heart abandons the dark tendencies and moves onto comedy, Sankarea stays in the darkness but dabbles in rom-com.

For Fans of Anti-Social Main Characters

high score girl anime

High Score Girl

Haruo is not popular, handsome, or even friendly. His sole redeeming quality is his skill at video games. However, his world is thrown upside down by a popular rich girl in his class, Oono, who absolutely trounces him in every game.

Now, he follows her from arcade to arcade, trying to win.

The Dangers in My Heart follows two people bonding over various encounters in the library while High Score Girl details the relationship of two people that frequently meet in the arcade.

Both stories are told from the perspective of the young, edgy male protagonist who must first realize he actually has feelings for the more popular girl that he keeps meeting.

However, while The Dangers in My Heart stays following the pair in just middle school, High Score Girl actually follows the characters throughout their school years all the way through high school.

Miyamura and Hori from Horimiya laying down

Horimiya

Although lauded for being likable and intelligent, Kyouko Hori hides the fact that she has to take care of her brother and the housework because her parents are always working.

Izumi Miyamura, on the other hand, is seen as a brooding, bespectacled otaku. Outside of school, he sports tattoos and nine piercings.

By happenstance, the two outside school personalities of these two classmates meet and they get to know a side of each other they don’t show their peers.

While The Dangers in My Heart firmly has Ichikawa as the main character, the main character focus is split between the couple in Horimiya. As such, you are not privileged to as much inner monologue as The Dangers in My Heart gives you.

Both The Dangers in My Heart and Horimiya follow the romance between a loner and a more popular girl whose paths just happen to cross. As the pair get to know a different side of each other that not everyone sees, their relationship grows.

While both are pretty cute, Horimiya gives you more of the romantic progression that you crave.

love chunibyou and other delusions anime

Love, Chunibyo, and Other Delusions!

Everyone has that stage in their life where they think themselves special, different from mere humans. This phenomenon is called Chunibyou Syndrome and is most common in pre-pubescent children.

In middle school, Yuuta Togashi thought himself the Dark Flame Master. He has since grown out of it upon entering high school and looks back at those cringe-worthy times with displeasure.

Unfortunately, after a chance meeting with Rikka Takanashi, a girl believing to have a God in her eye, she attaches herself to him and brings that Chunibyou past back out.

Although it quickly abandoned it for the most part, The Dangers in My Heart started off with the main character being both an edgelord and a chunibyou. If you enjoy that slightly chunibyou side of his, Love, Chunibyou, and Other Delusions is a romance between an ex-chunibyou trying to get over his past cringe and a current chunibyou trying to drag him back into it..
