After being pushed off a building to her death, office worker Rinko Hanasaki is reborn as Raeliana McMillan, a minor character in a novel she had once read.
While Raeliana is the eldest daughter of a nouveau-rich baron, Rinko knows that her new life isn’t exactly blessed. Having knowledge of Raeliana’s fate in the novel, she knows that her fiancee, Lord Francis Brooks, kills her to kick off the plot of the book for the actual heroine.
Determined not to die, Raeliana makes moves to break her engagement and save her life. This leads her to the mysterious Duke Noah Wynknight, the male love interest in the novel and general manipulator of politics among the nobility. She ends up blackmailing him, threatening to reveal his secrets, if he does not pretend to be her fiancee so she can break things off with Brooks.
However, while this saves her life for now, Raeliana’s relationship with the Duke grows more complicated by the day.
With a light twist on the isekai formula and sticking to a classic romantic formula, The Reason Why Raeliana Ended Up at The Duke’s Mansion is a softball for romance fans to enjoy. For Fans of Female Isekai With Romance
The Saint’s Magic Power is Omnipotent
Sei, a young office worker, is summoned to a new world. However, the people who summoned her to banish dark magic from the world only meant to summon one person they would call Saint. Instead, they summoned two, and Sei discovers that they actually like the other girl better.
Not really caring about that, she ends up making potions at a research institute using her newfound magic. Unfortunately, while she is unexpectedly talented at her work and happy doing it, she begins to think that she is indeed the Saint.
There is no shortage of female-led isekai anime at this point, but romance isn’t always an element. Both The Reason Why Raeliana Ended Up at The Duke’s Mansion and The Saint’s Magic Power is Omnipotent are the type of female-led isekai adventures that you want where romance is a major and enjoyable element, but the main characters also have their own things going on. Neither is just a dedicated simpering romance.
Both series feature older office ladies who get isekai’d to another world. However, while Raeliana is focused on not being murdered like the plot for the book she’s in foretells, The Saint’s Magic Power is Omnipotent is more laid-back and the main character just sort of lives her life, finding fulfillment in her skills and work.
That said, romance does play a larger role in The Reason Why Raeliana Ended up at the Duke’s Mansion. The love story in The Saint’s Magic Power is there, but not the main focus of the tale.
Meiji Tokyo Renka
Mei Ayazuki was just a normal high school girl until one night during a red full moon when she was transported to the Meiji era by a self-proclaimed magician named Charlie.
In this version of Meiji Era Tokyo, the existence of ghosts is accepted though most people can’t see them. Furthermore, after being introduced to several historical figures, Mei learns that she is a Tamayori, a person who can actually see ghosts and is highly prized.
Using her power, she helps various handsome historical men do their duty to protect Tokyo as their relationships deepen.
The Reason Why Raeliana Ended Up at The Duke’s Mansion take the older shoujo trope where a girl meets a series of handsome, powerful men and ends up protected by them, but uses that with a certain finesse that doesn’t make the eyes roll. One could say that Meiji Tokyo Renka is a little more heavy-handed with that same trope.
Both series are isekai anime where the romantic life of the female main character plays a large role. Often you see these main characters just going along with or having the scene completely stolen by the myriad of handsome men within that all have affection for her.
The big caveat to consider is that Tokyo Meiji Renka is based on an otome game, so those handsome men are the selling point. Not so much the plot. This means the story is a bit more flimsy than what you get in Raeliana.
I’m The Villainess So I’m Taming The Final Boss
Being constantly ill, a girl passed her time in the hospital playing otome games. However, one day she wakes up in the world of the game she was playing. What’s more, she wakes up as Aileen Lauren Dautriche, the villainess of the game.
After childhood friend and crown prince Cedric publicly breaks up with her for the game’s protagonist, Aileen makes moves to avoid the tragic future that results in her death.
She decides to propose to Cedric’s half-brother, Demon King Claude who, if left alone, would transform into a dragon and off-handedly kill her in the game.
So begins her quest to tame him.
Both The Reason Why Raeliana Ended Up at The Duke’s Mansion and I’m The Villainess So I’m Taming The Final Boss are isekai series where the female main characters are reincarnated in media they enjoyed before their death.
Both women end up as characters who end up dead in the plot and, wanting to live, they maneuver to avoid that dead end. Interestingly enough, both plots involve romancing the brother of the crown prince or king who is brooding and mysterious. It is just that I’m The Villainess So I’m Taming The Last Boss is more supernatural so the male love interest is a demon lord.
The real difference is in tone. I’m The Villainess has serious moments, but it is often more light-hearted and has romance motivating its entire plot. By comparison, Raeliana has other things going on outside of the actual romance and does tend to be more serious overall with its intrigues.
For Fans of Brooding Mysterious Male Love Interests
Sacrificial Princess and the King of Beasts
After hundreds of years of war between the kingdom of beasts and the neighboring human kingdom, a peace treaty was signed. The conditions of this treaty say that humans must offer a sacrifice to be devoured by the King of Beasts every year on a particular night.
Sariphi is the latest sacrifice to be sent, adopted by her parents to specifically protect their true-born daughter. Despondent after learning that truth and feeling like she has no home to return back to anyway, Sariphi is fine with dying and unafraid of the King of Beasts.
Intrigued by her lack of fear, the King of Beasts begins to grow closer to her, and when the day of sacrifice comes, he defies his advisors and decides to takes this interesting girl as his wife.
Both The Reason Why Raeliana Ended Up at The Duke’s Mansion and Sacrificial Princess and The King of Beasts are pretty standard fantasy romance tales where the female lead is cheerful/earnest/hard-working – all those usual shoujo heroine traits – and the male lead is brooding royalty that is constantly entangled in the schemes of nobility.
You watch these for the romance, first and foremost, but they both also offer some solid political intrigue as well.
Sugar Apple Fairy Tale
Fairies once lived free alongside humanity until humans discovered that stripping a wing from a fairy means literally holding their life in your hands. Now, fairies are enslaved to humans.
Ann is a young girl aspiring to become a Silver Sugar Master like her late mother was. To further this goal, she sets out to the royal capital, and on this dangerous journey she purchases a warrior fairy named Challe Fen Challe to protect her.
As Ann believes in the freedom and equality of faeries, she buys him and offers to give his wing back when she reaches her destination. However, as they travel, their bond together grows.
Sugar Apple Fairy Tale tells a story about a pair traveling together rather than the romance between nobility that The Reason Why Raeliana Ended Up at The Duke’s Mansion explores. However, what they most have in common is the dynamic between the main romantic couple.
Both series feature main couples that have a sort of playfully contentious relationship where the male main character is brooding and mysterious, drawing his female paramour in with her desire to want to learn more about him. Furthermore, both series feature the female leads getting in trouble and her love interest jumping in to save her quite often, as is tradition.
The Ancient Magus’ Bride
After being abandoned by her family, Chise Hatori is a 16-year-old teenager without hope.
In order to not have to worry about herself, she sells herself to slavers, only to be purchased by Magus Elias Ainsworth.
There, she is told she will become his apprentice and, in the future, his bride. Together, they work to build a relationship and work to control her own magus powers that will eventually result in her early death.
While The Reason Why Raeliana Ended Up at The Duke’s Mansion isn’t quite the same sort of beauty and the beast story that The Ancient Magus’s Bride is sometimes, both series are built on creating male love interests that you enjoy and want to learn more about because they have that air of mystery around them.
However, while The Reason Why Raeliana Ended Up at The Duke’s Mansion has fantasy elements, The Ancient Magus’ Bride is quite densely built with its supernatural lore. In fact, it often focuses more on adventures in the world than the romance. The romance is an important element, but not the main subject of the story in The Ancient Magus’s Bride.
For Fans of The Intrigues of Nobility
Snow White With The Red Hair
Shirayuki is an herbalist that lives a normal life in the country of Tanbarun. However, when her beautiful red hair is noticed by the Prince Raji, he tries to make her his concubine.
She then decides to cut her hair and flees into the forest. It is there she is rescued by the second Prince of neighboring country, Wistalia, named Zen.
In order to repay her life debt to him, she sets her hopes on becoming the court herbalist in the capital of Clarines.
Both The Reason Why Raeliana Ended Up at The Duke’s Mansion and Snow White With The Red Hair explore the romance between a lower born girl and the second born prince of a kingdom. However, because Shirayuki is even lower born than Raeliana, the plot puts more emphasis on how complicated her being together with the prince is.
That said, both series focus on plots going on in the kingdoms and the royal court. However, there is less malicious intrigue in Snow White With The Red Hair. It is more your standard sort of fairy tale romance.
Bibliophile Princess
Ever since she was a child, Elianna Bernstein has preferred the company of books to people. As such, when she is proposed to by Crown Prince Christopher, she believes that she is just a temporary fiancee to protect the royal family from the schemes of other noble families.
Yet, when Christopher appears to be getting closer to another girl, Elianna looks up from her books and realizes that she is not as indifferent to him as she thought. What’s more, Christopher was never anything other than in love with her either.
Both series focus on engaged couples with the male love interest being of high nobility and the girl being lower, but still noble. While Bibliophile Princess builds a plot all around it, both series focus on the difficulties the engaged couples faces being engaged to each other and the intrigues that are being played out around them.
This is often played out and explored as they are maneuvering various political issues in the kingdom. Usually, you will find that the heroine gets put on the spot in some difficult situation, but either she or her fiancee save the day in the end.
Earl and Fairy
In Scotland, Lydia Carlton makes her living as a fairy doctor. Though no one believes her, she insists that she can see and communicate with fairy creatures.
However, Edgar believes in her powers, and after rescuing her, becomes her employer hoping that she can help him deal with the many mysteries that follow him.
Do you enjoy the seductive, playful, and sometimes contentious relationship between Raeliana and Noah? Because that it pretty much the romantic dynamic at play in Earl and Fairy. It even has its very own quiet and deadly bodyguard that is loyal to his master, but comes to appreciate the female lead as well.
However, while The Reason Why Raeliana Ended Up at The Duke’s Mansion is isekai, Earl and Fairy is more traditionally supernatural, using fairy lore and fairy folk that not everyone even believes exists.
While both series are about various intrigues going on around the main characters, as the main characters in Earl and Fairy are not nobility in the strictest sense, their intrigue is more of a personal nature that relates to the male main characters’ dark past.
Endo and Kobayashi Live! The Latest on Tsundere Villainess Lieselotte
After having to quit baseball, Aota Endo ends up joining the broadcasting club and becoming increasingly closer with Shihono Kobayashi. One day, after listening to her gush about a game called MagiKoi, she convinces him to play it with her to work on his speaking skills for the broadcasting club.
However, when they boot up the game, they discover that Prince Siegwald can actually hear them as they are playing.
Thinking they are gods, Endo and Kobayashi use their commentary to help avoid the tragic ends for many characters through advising the prince on his dealings with the tsundere villainess Lieselotte.
Both The Reason Why Raeliana Ended Up at The Duke’s Mansion and The Latest on Tsundere Villainess Lieselotte follow the love lives of nobility. The big difference is that one is a more traditional isekai while the other simply has the characters being able to interact with characters in a dating sim.
What these series have most in common, aside from being romances between nobility, is that they are all about the main characters trying to manipulate situations to get what they want. Raeliana wants to live, and Endo and Kobayashi want certain characters in the game they are playing to live and fall in love.
The Latest on Tsundere Villainess Lieselotte has dark moments, but it is a little more comical and is often less tense than The Reason Why Raeliana Ended up at the Duke’s Mansion, however.
The Magical Revolution of the Reincarnated Princess and the Genius Young Lady
When she was a young child, Princess Anisphia recovered the memories of her previous life. Despite her having disappointingly no aptitude for magic, she uses the world’s magical capability and her past life knowledge of technology to form the realm of magicology.
One day while testing an invention, Anisphia crashes into a school party where her older brother is publicly breaking his engagement with Euphillia, robbing her of her future as a queen.
Anisphia whisks her away and asks her father to let her have her as an assistant and secretly hopes to make her a lover as well.
To be perfectly candid, The Magical Revolution of the Reincarnated Princess and the Genius Young Lady is a romance, but it it a shoujo ai romance. This means the romantic relationship is between two girls. Since The Reason Why Raeliana Ended Up at The Duke’s Mansion is built around a straight romance as the plot, this may not be of applicable interest, but it has a number of other similarities that merit a mention.
Both series are isekai anime in which the main characters retain their memories and use them to their advantage. Raeliana uses them to avoid murder, Anis uses them to use magic to better society through inventions that are inspired by things in our world.
While romance plays a larger part in the plot of The Reason Why Raeliana Ended up at the Duke’s Mansion, it is present in both series. However, the both series are built on intrigues that are going on in the kingdom. Magical Revolution spends more time exploring that instead.
