Anime Like Amagami SS

After being stood up on a Christmas Eve date, Junichi has a hard time opening himself up to romance again, even two years later.

However, upon a chance meeting with several girls he becomes romantically interested in, he has hope that this year he can spend Christmas Eve with someone he truly loves.

Amagami SS is a favorite of many romance and harem anime fans because of instead of being the usual harem romance, it uses the Omnibus anime format in which the romantic story of each different girl is explored and concluded before resetting time and starting the next. It is a great way to pack multiple love stories, and multiple girls, into one story. If you are looking for more anime recommendations like Amagami SS, then head on down below.

For Fans of Omnibus-Style Romance

sky of connection anime

Sky of Connection

Twins Haruka and Sora Kasugano are coming back to a town filled with memories for them.

After their parents died in a horrible traffic accident, the twins want to start over peacefully at their grandfather’s house. However, it is their own suppressed memories and emotions that come back to haunt them.

Both Amagami SS and Sky of Connection are visual novel anime adaptations that utilize the omnibus style of storytelling where you can see the main character’s story with each girl.

However, while they are so innately similar, one of the girls in Sky of Connection whose romance arc is shown is his sister and that relationship may put some people off.

seiren anime

Seiren

Shouichi Kamita is at the point in his life where he is worried about his university entrance exams and his future.

In thinking about his future, he meets three girls that he could see himself having a future with.

Both Amagami SS and Seiren share the same author, the same basic romance plot, and the same omnibus-style format – So, what I’m saying is that Seiren is just more Amagami SS.

However, while Seiren focuses on less girls, it isn’t quite as beloved as Amagami SS because of the details of some of the stories. It can be a bit harder to enjoy some girls compared to Amagami SS.

the world god only knows anime

The World God Only Knows

Keima Katsuragi is known as the “God of Conquest,” a man that can conquer any girl’s heart, at least in his dating sim games.

However, when Keima arrogantly accepts an offer to prove his dating sim supremacy, he finds himself at the mercy of a demon that forces him to woo over real life girl.

Both Amagami SS and The World God Only Knows take full advantage of the possibilities of an omnibus-style storytelling. However, whereas Amagami is using that to adapt a visual novel story fully into anime, The World God Only Knows uses it to tell a dating sim-style story.

Instead of rewinding time, The World God Only Knows simply wipes memories so the main character can easily move onto the next target.

photokano anime

Photokano

After a boring end to his summer break in his sophomore year of high school, Kazuya receives a single lens reflex camera as a gift.

While he is intrigued by it, slowly Kazuya finds out how much it will open up his social life.

Like Amagami SS, Photokano is an omnibus-style romance anime where each girl gets their own short arc. However, this time, Photokano has a photography theme.

However, because it uses the first few episodes to introduce the characters, Photokano has a little less detail in the character stories, but it makes time for some ecchi.

For Fans of Multiple Love Interests

hatsukoi limited anime

Hatsukoi Limited

This is a tale of middle school and high school girls and their first loves. Each episode is its own love story, but those same couples may play other roles in the next love story.

Like Amagami SS, you get to view love from many different situations.

Instead of following one boy and the many girls he falls in love with, Hatsukoi Limited follows a series of girls as they fall in love with different people.

However, unlike Amagami SS where each new romance resets the time line, Hatsukoi continues it as the next character is introduced to fall in love.

Clannad anime

Clannad

Tomoya Okazaki is a delinquent who finds everything dull and believes he will never amount to anything. That is, until a girl named Nagisa catches his eye one day on his way to school.

Suddenly, Tomoya begins to notice Nagisa more and more. She is sickly and weak, but she always tries her best in order to follow her dream of reviving the school’s drama club. Claiming he has nothing better to do, he decides to help Nagisa, and along the way ends up helping several other girls and potential drama club members.

However, as he learns more about the girls and helps them overcome their problems, he might just be able to overcome his own as well.

Similar to Amagami SS, you have one guy and many potential girls he could fall in love with because of Clannad’s visual novel origins. However, it focuses on the guy helping many girls, but loving only one of them.

If you enjoyed Amagami SS because he helps the girls with their many problems, then Clannad can be a good way to follow up.

kimikiss pure rouge anime

KimiKiss Pure Rouge

Kouichi and Kazuki learn that, after living in France for several years, their childhood friend Mao is coming back to Japan.

Since her parents will remain overseas for a time, Kouichi learns that Mao will be coming to stay with him. While these three friends are overjoyed to be reunited, high school is a turbulent time.

What would Amagami SS be without using the omnibus style? It would very likely be pretty close to KimiKiss, a story that focuses on the relationship between a group of friends.

While KimiKiss isn’t a harem anime, it does focus on the numerous budding and building relationships of a friend group. However, whereas you learn about each girl in her arc after they start as usually close to strangers to Junichi, KimiKiss has all the characters as friends, so you get to know the characters less. The series is more about the relationships they have with each other.

For Fans of Emotion-Focused Romances

anime series like Tsuki ga Kirei

Tsuki ga Kirei

For the first time in their third year, Azumi and Mizuno were put in the same class. Initially, they are nothing more than classmates, but continued exposure sees them grow progressively closer.

As the year goes on, the pair and their classmates must come to face themselves as they mature and face challenges.

It can be said that many romance series rely too heavily on drama, and that drama can overwhelm any genuine feelings. However, both Amagami SS and Tsuki ga Kirei break free of that in their own ways.

Amagami does it via the omnibus format since there is no time for much drama when things are kept compact and Tsuki ga Kirei just skips it altogether to craft a slow and touching tale of young love, though not one without its difficulties.

ef a tale of memories anime

Ef: A Tale of Memories

Ef tells two different love stories.

One about Hiro Hirono who accidentally spends Christmas Eve with Miyako Miyamura after she steals his bike (and crashes it) to chase down a robber.

The other follows Renji Asou, a boy with a white knight complex, who comes to have feelings for Chihiro Shindou, a girl that is always reading alone at an abandoned train station. In effort to get closer to her, he eventually suggests they write a novel together.

While Amagami SS focuses on the main character’s romance with each girl, Ef takes the more standard approach of following different characters and their own romantic stories.

However, what these two anime series have most in common is their passion for emotion-driven romances. While Ef can be a bit heavier on the drama side, they both do well to build out complicated feelings between the characters that lead to good romantic tales.

The different, yet similar sibling series to Ef: A Tale of Memories, called Ef: A Tale of Melodies, also applies.

white album 2 anime

White Album 2

Haruki Kitahara’s light music club is on the verge of disbanding due to lack of interest, an event that will crush his dream of playing at the school festival.

However, as he solemnly plays “White Album,” the first song he ever learned to play, an angelic voice suddenly harmonizes with his lonely guitar.

Both White Album 2 and Amagami SS have a passion for telling emotion-rich high school romances where the main character has multiple interested women on deck.

However, instead of doing an omnibus style like Amagami SS, White Album 2 goes the more traditional route where the main character has a complicated relationship with those women. Of course, this means White Album 2 is awash in more drama.

Like Ef: A Tale of Memories, the original White Album anime – though unrelated to White Album 2 – is also applicable as a recommendation. However, it is more dramatic and features college-aged characters.
