Humanity is pushed to the brink by an entity known as Huge. To combat this, a weapon called CHARM was developed. Best used by teen girls, these young warriors known as lilies are trained up to use CHARM in special schools.
It’s a tale you’ve heard before, with themes and characters you have seen before, and that is not always a bad thing. I know there are some genres I thirst for even though its the same plot reskinned. If you are looking for more anime recommendations like Assault Lily: Bouquet, then head on down below.
Anime Like Assault Lily: Bouquet
For Fans of Cute Girl Soldiers
Madoka Magica
Madoka Kaname and Sayaka Miki are your typical middle school girls, but one day they encounter a cute creature named Kyuubey that offers to grant them one wish. In exchange for their wish, they must become magical girls and protect humanity from witches. While Sayaka accepts right away, Madoka is more hesitant, not knowing what she would wish for. However, her decision is even further delayed when the mysterious Homura Akemi, a transfer student, begs her not to accept.
While Assault Lily fighters are not the same as the magical girls in Madoka Magica, they share a certain viciousness. Both series feature cute wiafus put into violent situations in which they may not survive. However, Assault Lily features less brutality.
WorldEnd: What Do you Do At the End of the World?
It has been five hundred years since humanity went extinct at the hands of the mysterious beasts that roam the land. Now the surviving races have retreated to floating islands in the sky out of reach of most of the beasts. However, there are ones nimble enough to put these people in danger. A small group of young girls, a race called the Leprechauns, are now raised as the only ones that can wield ancient weapons to fend off invasion by the beasts, but it often requires them to sacrifice themselves and they don’t often live to see adulthood. Enter Willem, the last surviving human woken from his slumber and sent to watch over these girls, still feeling the sting from the final battle where he lost everything five hundred years ago.
While WorldEnd technically follows “fairies,” they are basically just cute girls that the rest of society sends off to die young and violently. Assault Lily is the same, but it focuses less on how awful that is,
Azur Lane
With the appearance of an alien force called Sirens, the various nations of the world stood in solidarity, forming an alliance called Azur Lane. However, as that unity begins to fracture, there exists an experienced fighter called Grey Ghost who may just be the key to ending an endless conflict.
Both series follows young women fighting aliens with a variety of weaponry. However, Azur Lane is based on a gatcha game so it has a little less depth to it.
For Fans of Yuri Baiting
Release the Spyce
Momo is a shy teenager that wants to follow in her father’s footsteps as a police officer. She also has a unique ability to determine what someone is feeling with a simple lick. One day, Momo is recruited by her classmates into a secret agency that works to unravel crime with their unique abilities.
Both series feature the same sort of main character relationship where the main character admired a person and they got teamed up with them. You watch them slowly open up their hearts to each other in a platonic way that is still friendly to the shipping crowd.
Lapis Re:Lights
Leaving home behind, Tiara arrives at Flora Girls’ Academy and meets her old friend, Rosetta. At this academy, they train young witches to use spells for combat as well as performing orchestras in order to power themselves up with harvested mana. Unfortunately, Tiara finds out that the new group she is put into are all on the verge of failing.
Both casts are filled with girls. Girls everywhere being trained in a particular craft. However, Lapis Re:Lights is magic that is not necessarily aimed at fighting. However, both are great for watching waifus bond.
Black Rock Shooter
On the first day of school, Mato Kuroi runs into Yomi Takanashi, and they become fast friends after bonding over a phone strap. However, in an alternate universe, the two girls exist as parallel beings. When the two worlds begin to overlap, the pair becomes entangled in the threads of fate.
Both series focus on a partnership where two girls grow closer to each other. It provides some yuri bait for the shippers, but don’t let that turn you off either. Black Rock Shooter has some great action scenes, above and beyond what Assault Lily provides.
For Fans of Magic Meets Technology
Symphogear
Under constant assault by an alien race called Noise, society doesn’t know that the idol duo Zwei Wing use their songs to charge powerful weapons known as Symphogear to fight back. After an attack at a concert, part of the duo sacrifices themselves to save a young girl, implanting a fragment of her symphogear in her. Years later, that same girl awakens the power to defend humanity.
While both series have myriad cute girls fighting creatures with a variety of specialized weaponry, the big difference here is that Symphogear uses the power of song to fight. It’s a little more campy, but weirdly addicting too.
Granbelm
After magic became a weapon for war, seven powerful mages gave up their lives to seal it away. Now, the magic seal hosts Granbelm, a monthly series of battles that is mean to determine the one true mage among the participants. On the full moon, high schooler Mangetsu is transported to an illusionary world where six other mages are participating in Granbelm. Confused on why she is there at first, her magic reveals itself and she is determined to make her wish come true.
Aside from the visual similarity between the main characters, Granbelm is also a mecha magical girl series where a bunch of cute girls fight each other. Even though Granbelm uses magic, it still has those same mecha vibes.
Regalia: The Three Sacred Stars
Twelve years ago two giant robots fought in the Kingdom of Rimguard, leading to devastation of anyone nearby. As the memories of that incident begins to fade, a large mech suddenly attacks the Enastria Empire where two girls find themselves caught in the destruction as well as their own destiny in the incident.
Both series are about a society where their lives were upended and everyone was thrust into battle. The key to survival is cute girls that can fight in whatever way the shows give them.
