Rein is a beast tamer and member of the Hero’s Party. However, because beast taming is rather weak magic, he is used as more of a errand boy for them instead. That all changes when they finally fire him and he is set adrift. Kicked out of the party, he ends up meeting a girl from one of the strongest species of beast people and tames her. Together, they become magnificent adventurers while the Hero’s Party begins to realize that their previous success was all due to Rein’s support.
It isn’t the most cerebral fantasy anime plot, but it is plenty comforting, and who doesn’t love beast people? If you are looking for more anime recommendations like Beast Tamer, head on down below.

For Fans of Beast Taming
Hataage! Kemono Michi
Shibata Genzo is both a professional wrestler and an animal lover. One day, he is summoned to another world by a princess. She makes the mistake of asking him to rid her kingdom of these evil beasts. Instead of doing that, Genzo suplexes her and heads off to start a monster pet shop.
While Beast Tamer isn’t the comedy-oriented isekai that Kemono Michi is, they have a rather similar focus. Both series are about heroes that love animals, and it is that love of animals that also makes them beholden to a number of beast people who will make up their harem. However, Genzo is strong as a wrestler and is just good with animals whereas Rein has strong beast taming magic.
My Isekai Life: I Gained a Second Character Class and Became the Strongest Sage in the World
Yuuji Sano was once an office worker, but one day while finishing up his work he was summoned to another world. There he discovers that his class in this other world is a Monster Tamer, something not really good for adventuring as a profession. However, after an encounter with some slimes, he gains a second class – Sage – which allows him to also wield incredible magic.
Both series are about monster tamers, and the world of both series sees monster tamers as a rather weak class for adventuring. However, whereas Rein in Beast Tamer makes the best of the abilities he has, My Isekai Life gives Yuuji actual strong magic that he can use instead. The main characters’ beast companions become more like helpers rather than his combat capabilities like they are in Beast Tamer.
By The Grace of the Gods
After leading a miserable life, Ryouma Takebayashi passes away at age 39. Three deities, taking pity on him, reincarnate him into a fantasy world with an aptitude for magic, telling him to enjoy life and that they will always watch out for him. With his newfound existence, he spends it studying slimes, amassing a slime army, and learning some magic, but he misses humanity. Being persuaded to join a group of travelers, Ryouma’s new world opens up for him.
Both series are rather low-key, laid back adventure series about main characters who spend their efforts on taming monsters. However, By The Grace of the Gods focuses solely on slimes. While both series have moments of action, they really shine in their cute slice of life moments.
Black Summoner
After an accident, a man is killed and the Goddess of Reincarnation is tasked with reincarnating him. In this afterlife, he charms the goddess, gaining the rare class of summoner, and the ability to contract her as a summon in exchange for memories of his past life. Now thrust into a fantasy world as Kelvin, he hides his ultra-rare class to maintain his freedom in order to go on grand adventures and form pacts with powerful foes.
What is a summoner who gains new summons by defeating or forming pacts with creatures if not a tamer of beasts? Both series follow main characters who are strong in their ability to subjugate strong creatures and turn them into combat companions. However, Black Summoner is more focused on action, and later, harem shenanigans.
For Fans of Kicked From The Hero’s Party
Banished From The Hero’s Party, I Decided To Live A Quiet Life In The Countryside
Red was once the member of a hero’s party that sought to destroy the Demon Lord Taraxon. However, while Red was powerful at first, his companions soon eclipsed him, and thus, pushed him out of the party. Hoping for a more laid-back life, he moves to the country with a dream to start an apothecary. He hopes to keep his past as an adventurer a secret, but that becomes increasingly more difficult when an adventurer named Rit from his past asks to move in with him.
Both series are about heroes who are seen as highly ineffectual. As such, they were kicked from the Hero’s party and decided to make their own way in life. In both shows, you see that the main characters were rather underutilized in their party, and they end up shining when they go their own way.
I’m Quitting Heroing
After using his immense power to save the world, Leo finds that there is no place for a powerful hero in a world at peace. Being too strong to remain in human kingdoms, he seeks a job in the Demon King’s Army, which he defeated and is in need of rebuilding. While the army has many problems, Leo’s power is boundless, but he finds that the demon king has kinder motives for world domination than he expected.
While not kicked from the party, the main character in I’m Quitting Heroing was driven off from human society for being too strong. As an outcast, he joins the enemy he just defeated. Like Beast Tamer, the series focuses on him doing what he wants in life now that his primary purpose is gone. However, while Beast Tamer is rather light-hearted, I’m Quitting Heroing has some serious moments.
Maoyu – Archenemy and Hero
After fifteen years of warfare with the demon world, the Hero is unsatisfied with their advance and rushes forward to the Demon Queen’s Castle. There he not only finds a beautiful woman that is the queen, but she needs his help. To his surprise, she offers a way to not only help his country, but hers as well. Together, they join forces to make that dream a reality.
Unlike Beast Tamer that has Rein kicked from the party, Maoyu features a hero that leaves his adventuring party behind and ends up forming an agreement with the demon queen he meant to defeat. Instead of being big action series, both are more about cute world building moments where the main characters use their skills to help people.
For Fans of Kemonomimi (Beast People)
Dog Days
In Flonyard, a war rages between the dog-like citizens of the Republic of Biscotti and their attackers, the feline forces of the Galette Leo knights. In an effort to save her country, Princess Millhiore of Biscotti summons a champion from another world. This champion is Cinque Izumi, a normal student from Japan. Agreeing to assist the beleaguered republic, Cinque retrieves a sacred weapons called Palladion. However, he discovers that the “wars” on Flonyard aren’t fought with violence, but are more akin to sports competitions with no casualties.
If you enjoyed the abundance of beast people in Beast Tamer and also enjoyed the cute slice of life vibe it had, then Dog Days, while older, is much the same. It features a hero and the number of beast people that rally to his side having rather low impact adventures.
The Fruit of Evolution – Before I Knew It, My Life Had It Made
Seiichi Hiragi is a fat loser who has been outcasted and bullied at school. However, one day it was announced by a being claiming to be god that they would all be transported to another world, but had to wait for the summoning to be completed. The school formed up into groups, but Seiichi was shunned. This caused him to be transported elsewhere when they went to a new world. Hungry, he ate a fruit that turned out to be the fruit of evolution, spiraling his life to new heights.
Both series are about main characters that are considered losers by their human peers. However, they end up with beast people who find them fantastic. It then ends up becoming the main character and his harem of beast people, though Fruit of Evolution often has them evolving from actual beasts into kemonomimi.
Harem in the Labyrinth of Another World
After being perpetually bullied in school, Michio Kaga is browsing a suicide website when an ad catches his eye. This ad takes him to a site that seems to allow him to create a character for an MMO. He messes around on the site with its roll-based luck element until he gets top-tier stats before clicking accept. However, this website suddenly transports him to a game-like fantasy land.
The title may suggest this is a harem, but it takes all series to gather any other members. That said, if you liked Beast Tamer, but wished the main character ended each daily adventure by sleeping with his contracted beast people, then Harem in the Labyrinth of Another World was made exactly for you. It’s lewd, but filled with a number of kemonomimi.
