Anime Like Bibliophile Princess

Ever since she was a child, Elianna Bernstein has preferred the company of books to people. As such, when she is proposed to by Crown Prince Christopher, she believes that she is just a temporary fiancee to protect the royal family from the schemes of other noble families.

Yet, when Christopher appears to be getting closer to another girl, Elianna looks up from her books and realizes that she is not as indifferent to him as she thought. What’s more, Christopher was never anything other than in love with her either.

The amusing thing about Bibliophile Princess is that its first few episodes play out like the typical ending episodes of a shoujo romance, leaving the rest open for fun new frontiers of shoujo romance anime. For Fans of Royal Romance

Snow White with the Red Hair anime

Snow White With The Red Hair

Shirayuki is an herbalist that lives a normal life in the country of Tanbarun. However, when her beautiful red hair is noticed by the Prince Raji, he tries to make her his concubine.

She then decides to cut her hair and flees into the forest. It is there she is rescued by the second Prince of neighboring country, Wistalia, named Zen.

In order to repay her life debt to him, she sets her hopes on becoming the court herbalist in the capital of Clarines.

Both series are what you might call ‘fairy tale romances’ in which a girl of lower standing begins a romance with a prince. They need to prove their worth to others, but the prince himself has already completely fallen for them.

They also both touch on improving and managing their kingdom in some of the subplots.

the world is still beautiful anime

The World is Still Beautiful

Within the realms of the Sun Kingdom, it never rains. However, in the Principality of the Rain, the women of the family possess the ability to call upon the rain.

So when the Sun King, recent conqueror of the world, Livius I decides to take a wife, it is only natural to pick one of the four princesses from the Principality of the Rain.

Nike Remarcier is the youngest and lost a game to her sisters, so she was chosen to go. Frustrated at her lot, she journeys to the kingdom and is surprised to find that the Sun King is not as scary as they say, and also that he is just a boy.

Both series are romance series between a king or prince and a girl of nobility, but lower than the royal family herself.

The couple in the Bibliophile Princess is particularly doting and sappy whereas the couple in The World is Still Beautiful is snarky, but loving.

Both series establish the couple rather early and spend the rest of the series dealing more with political matters.

The Story of Sauinkoku anime

The Story of Saiunkoku

Although her family was once nobles, they fell on hard times. Now, with her father making a pittance as an archivist, Shuurei takes odds jobs to make ends meet.

One day, she receives an offer to become the emperor’s consort for a huge sum of money. She accepts in hopes that it could further her own governmental ambitions.

Both series take place in a royal palace where a girl of lower standing bonds with not just the prince, but all the various men in the palace. Due to her nature, she charms everyone around her.

Yet, the initial few episodes of Bibliophile Princess are more akin to the last few episodes of Saiunkoku in terms of progression.

For Fans of Bookish Girls

ascendance of a bookworm anime

Ascendance of a Bookworm

Motosu Urano loves books. She recently got her librarian certification and was about to enter her dream job when an earthquake caused her to be crushed by her collection of books.

She is reincarnated into a new world as the five year old daughter of a soldier. Unfortunately, in this world, books are reserved for the elite nobility.

What do you do when your station in life does not afford you access to books? Make your own.

Most notably, both anime series are about girls who like books, and often like books more than anything else. While Bibliophile Princess is about Elianna realizing feelings other than a love of books, Ascendance of a Bookworm is more slice of life-oriented about making books and being an independent woman in a fantasy world.

the saints magic power is omnipotent anime

The Saint’s Magic is Omnipotent

Sei, a young office worker, is summoned to a new world. However, the people who summoned her to banish dark magic from the world only meant to summon one person they would call Saint. Instead, they summoned two, and Sei discovers that they actually like the other girl better.

Not really caring about that, she ends up making potions at a research institute using her newfound magic. Unfortunately, while she is unexpectedly talented at her work and happy doing it, she begins to think that she is indeed the Saint.

While Sei isn’t quite as bookish as Elianna, both The Saint’s Magic Power is Omnipotent and Bibliophile Princess focus on girls that would rather be exploring their passions rather than chasing boys.

Yet, even still, both series focus on them falling in love with a princely-type of man.

arte anime

Arte

16th century Florence is awash with cultural and creative contributions during the Renaissance. Arte is a young lady from an aristocratic family who wants to contribute to this unique time. However, after her father’s death, she is expected to marry rather than become an artist.

While she defies her family and looks for a mentor, she faces many obstacles in her path, one being that she is a woman.

While Bibliophile Princess focuses on a bookish girl, Arte focuses on a girl that is passionate about art in a time where that wasn’t something ladies would get too deep into creating.

In both shows, it shows the audience how passionate both characters are about their interests. However, Arte isn’t a romance series, it gets its drama from its pursuit of art.

For Fans of Otome Game Vibes

Libra of Nil Admirari anime

Libra of Nil Admirari

In order to protect her family’s station, Tsugumi is resolved to marry a man she never met. However, just before the marriage, her younger brother killed himself by self-immolation while holding a strange book.

Suddenly, the agents of the Imperial Library Intelligence Asset Management Bureau appear before her to secure this book, an object that can push the reader to do awful things. After the incident, Tsumugi manifests the ability to identify these objects and is recruited into the organization.

Libra is a bit darker with a bit more action, but it is also an anime series that is focused on a girl who ends up being entangled by books.

As Libra is based on an otome game, the reverse harem is larger and stronger than in Bibliophile Princess where it is just implied.

I'm the Villainess, So I'm Taming the Final Boss royal romance anime

I’m The Villainess, So I’m Taming the Final Boss

Being constantly ill, a girl passed her time in the hospital playing otome games. However, one day she wakes up in the world of the game she was playing. What’s more, she wakes up as Aileen Lauren Dautriche, the villainess of the game.

After childhood friend and crown prince Cedric publicly breaks up with her for the game’s protagonist, Aileen makes moves to avoid the tragic future that results in her death.

She decides to propose to Cedric’s half-brother, Demon King Claude who, if left alone, would transform into a dragon and off-handedly kill her in the game. So begins her quest to tame him.

Both series are ultimately romances between noble families. While they are staying at the home of their male love interest, the female leads both also start to charm everyone around them.

While they both set up reverse harem vibes, they focus intensely on the main couple.

earl and fairy anime

Earl and Fairy

In Scotland, Lydia Carlton makes her living as a fairy doctor. Though no one believes her, she insists that she can see and communicate with fairy creatures.

However, Edgar believes in her powers, and after rescuing her, becomes her employer hoping that she can help him deal with the many mysteries that follow him.

Earl and Fairy has a bit of a supernatural twist to it, but it is still very much a romance show. While the male love interest is more of a scoundrel, he charms like a prince.

Earl and Fairy also has more moments of action, but it is the talents and personality of the main character that charm most men in the series, not unlike Bibliophile Princess.
