Formerly a corporate slave, Reiji was transported to another world. Using his skills, he started making potions that were effective, and most importantly, didn’t taste like absolute garbage. Now Reiji lives a slow life on the outskirts of a village by making potions and running a pharmacy.
This is waifu bait isekai, for sure, but it is also some pretty chill fantasy slice of life that specializes in a comforting, but not side-splitting sort of comedy. Anime Like Cheat Pharmacist’s Slow Life – Making a Drugstore in Another World
For Fans of Professions in Another World
The Saint’s Magic Power is Omnipotent
Sei, a young office worker, is summoned to a new world. However, the people who summoned her to banish dark magic from the world only meant to summon one person they would call Saint. Instead, they summoned two, and Sei discovers that they actually like the other girl better. Not really caring about that, she ends up making potions at a research institute using her newfound magic. Unfortunately, while she is unexpectedly talented at her work and happy doing it, she begins to think that she is indeed the Saint.
Essentially, both series are isekai anime series where the main character spends their time making potions. However, whereas Drugstore in Another World is a comedy, The Saint’s Magic Power is Omnipotent has a plot. It isn’t a particularly intense plot, and it very much advances at a relaxed pace.
Hataage! Kemono Michi
Shibata Genzo is both a professional wrestler and an animal lover. One day, he is summoned to another world by a princess. She makes the mistake of asking him to rid her kingdom of these evil beasts. Instead of doing that, Genzo suplexes her and heads off to start a monster pet shop.
Both series are comedy isekai series where, instead of becoming some great hero, the protagonist gets a job. The episode formatting is different with Kemono Michi focusing on one plot through the episode while Drugstore in Another World contains several shorter plots.
Dungeon of Black Company
Kinji has finally perfected his NEET lifestyle through shrewd money management. However, just when he is able to hang out for the rest of his life, he is transported to another world. There he is immediately shoved into a harsh mining job for a black company that cares only about profits and quotas. However, as the world’s laziest and most clever NEET, Kinji is determined to be a layabout.
Both series focus on less-than-heroic main characters who use their industrious minds to thrive financially in their new world. However, Kinji is distinctly a more loathsome character and lacks the loving harem.
For Fans of Fantasy Harems
Gate: Thus the JSDF Fought There
Japanese Self-Defense Force solider and otaku Youji Itami is in the Ginza district of Tokyo feeding his hobby one afternoon when a gate to another world opens and medieval soldiers flood modern day Japan. While Itami, in conjunction with the local police, manage to save many civilian lives, his hero status forces him to go beyond the gate with his fellow soldiers to explore a mysterious new world filled with swords, magic, elves, and dragons.
While Gate and Drugstore to Another World are technically both isekai comedies, Gate has a plot that it takes pretty seriously. What they most have in common is that the main characters have attracted a harem of lovely fantasy girls that dote on them endlessly.
Monster Girl Doctor
In the town of Lindworm, monsters and humans coexist. Dr. Glenn, a human doctor, runs a clinic for monster girls with his lamia assistant. While monster girls present some unique challenges, he does his job with grace, confidence, and professionalism.
While Monster Girl Doctor is not an isekai show, it does focus on a character that has a job and does it. Most notably, in both series you watch their harem drool over the main character while being widely ignored by them as they go about their job.
Seton Academy: Join the Pack
Thanks to population decline, there are fewer humans left. Enter Mazama Jin, an animal hater who has enrolled in Seton Academy that is mostly anthropomorphic animal people. He immediately falls in love the Hino Hitomi, the only other human female in class. Unfortunately, as he tries to become closer with her, he gets pulled into the various shenanigans of his classmates.
While Seton Academy is a distinctly different flavor, if Drugstore in Another World ignited an interest in harems that feature various creatures, this can satisfy. Furthermore, you also get main characters that are largely uninterested in anything romantic with his creature ladies.
For Fans of Short Skit-Based Fantasy Comedies
Isekai Izakaya
There is a bar located in Kyoto called Nobu. However, its front door leads to another world. In Nobu, they bring Japanese food and drink to the residents of another world.
Both series feature very short plot points about a character with a problem or a desire, and the main characters satisfying that with either potions or food. There is no overall plot and it makes them both pretty good isekai series to relax to.
Dragon Goes House-Hunting
Letty is a dragon, but because he failed to guard the nest, he is disowned by his parents. Not really being a particularly fierce dragon, he goes looking for a new home to hide away from the world. With the help of elf and real estate broker, Dearia, Letty the dragon goes house hunting.
If you enjoy silly comedy in a fantasy setting, both series do it pretty well and in a low intensity sort of way. Whereas Drugstore in Another World is about solving various problems, Dragon Goes House-Hunting is more about discovering all the problems with their potential new home.
As Miss Beelzebub Likes
Myurin, skilled in realm administration, has been hired on in the Kingdom of Pandemonium where the fallen angels dwell. There he will be working with the feared Beelzebub, one of the seven princes of hell. However, he discovers that Beelzebub isn’t quite as fearsome. In fact, he is really a girl and is obsessed with fluffy things. So begins the tale of how Myurin learns that nothing is as it seems in this kingdom.
While you could call As Miss Beelzebub Likes more of a supernatural show than a fantasy one, it does feature the same sort of plot. A character sees a problem, then quickly solves it. There are tons of cute moments stuffed in there and not much plot at all.
