On Earth, the villainous Kisaragi Corporation has finally conquered everything, but they have their eye on the entire universe. Having finally created a transporter, they send agent Roku-gou to the kingdom of Grace where he is to infiltrate and eventually conquer the kingdom for the corporation. Of course, to ensure the success of one of their more disposable agents, they send with him Alice, an exceptional android, to make sure the mission is carried out. Finally arriving, Roku-gou and Alice end up infiltrating the inner circle of the kingdom and helping them secure victory against an invading Demon Lord.
Here I thought this would be generic, likely ecchi, likely harem trash. Then I learned it was by the author of Konosuba and still manages to channel to Konosuba vibes. If you want more anime recommendations like Combatants Will Be Dispatched, then head on down below.
Anime Like Combatants Will Be Dispatched
For Fans of B-Team Crews That No One Wanted
Konosuba
On his way back from buying a new game, Kazuma Satou died a pathetic death. However, he awakens before the Goddess Aqua who gives him two choices: go to heaven or reincarnate into an actual fantasy world. Naturally, the gamer picks the fantasy world. Now Kazuma must deal with defeating an evil demon king, useless party members, and paying living expenses.
Both series are based off light novels that were written by the same person. It really does show in both despite Konosuba being a more traditional isekai compared to the sci-fi elements that can be lightly found in Combatants Will Be Dispatched.
The Irresponsible Captain Tylor
Ueki Tylor had his life planned out – join the military and land a safe, cushy desk job. However, after wandering into a hostage situation and saving an admiral, suddenly he finds himself the captain of a space cruiser. Of course, his crew is the most rag-tag team of misfits in the universe, too.
Both series are all about the heroics of a group of misfits. Tylor and Roku-gou have the same sort of attitude towards life and work while both leading a crew of people that are flawed in serious ways.
Grimgar of Ash and Fantasy
Thrown into a fantasy land with no memories of their previous life, the strong among this new group of people bind together while the weak are left to fend for themselves. Grimgar tells the tale of the struggles of the weak as they pick up combat skills and fight the creatures of the world in order to earn a living.
Grimgar is distinctly a more serious isekai drama, but it also focuses on the unwanted. In Combatants Will Be Dispatched, the whole team is disposable, and they make do with their abilities. It is much the same in Grimgar, but they struggle at lot more since they are actually not particularly powerful.
For Fans of Idiot Main Characters
Space Dandy
The universe is a vast and strange place, full of even stranger beings. For a man named Dandy, his job is to travel around and register new species for a reward. What should be an easy job is made less so by a series of odd coincidences that happen along the way.
Because Roku-gou is a irresponsible lecher, there are many moments in which you feel like you could be watching Space Dandy, except for it lacks aliens. They went to another world, but the inhabitants are all just humans, demons, and fantasy creatures.
Gintama
After aliens invade Japan, they put a prohibition on swords. However, Gintoki Sakata still possesses the heart of a samurai. Taking on odd jobs alongside of his friends, Gintama follows Gintoki during his chaotic life as an errand boy.
While they vastly differ in plot and even setting, both Gintama and Combatants Will Be Dispatched do similar sort of comedies. They can be absolutely ridiculous one moment, then completely serious the next. Gintama is more parody/absurdist comedy with the occasional plot while Combatants Will Be Dispatched is always moving forward in their adventures.
Ixion Saga DT
While playing an MMO, Kon thinks he lucks out when he receive a request from a female character in the game, hoping to parlay that into getting himself a girlfriend. However, when he accepts, he is transported to the world of Mira where he accidentally saves the young princess by landing his computer chair on her attacker. With no idea how to get home, Kon joins the princess as part of her honor guard as she travels on her way to an arranged marriage in order to save her country.
Both series are technically isekai, but Ixion is more traditionally that trope. What they most have in common is that they are actually pretty amazing comedies led by a lecherous, kind of inept man who is also pretty powerful in his own right.
For Fans of Irreverent World Conquest
World Conquest Zvezda
A runaway named Jimon is wandering the streets one night when he encounters a collapsed young girl. After offering her some food, she invites him to join her organization. Really just needing a place to stay, he accepts and accepts her nickname of Dva. The girl turns out to be Kate, leader of Zvezda, an organization bent on world conquest.
When you think of people who can and will conquer the world. You don’t think of these people. They are generally silly and sometimes bad at what they do, but they are also powerful in unique ways.
Excel Saga
Hyperactive Excel is a faithful servant of her beloved lord Il Palazzo, who aims to take over the world. Throughout her quest to help him achieve his goals, Excel and her partner Hyatt travel all over the world where there adventures often take a turn for the weird.
If you like your tales about a bunch of screw ups trying to take over the world, Excel Saga is a classic. The comedy is a little more rapid fire and spastic than in Combatants Will Be Dispatched, and there is much less interesting action.
No Game No Life
In the real world, siblings Shiro and Sora are NEET shut-ins. However, in the virtual world, they are a legendary gaming duo. One day, after a strange email, they find their reality taken away as they are transported to the realm of Tet, God of Games. Here, Shiro and Sora must play games to defeat the sixteen races of this world as well as Tet in order to become the new gods.
While No Game No Life isn’t about dedicated world conquest for an evil corporation, it is about two kids who do end up trying to conquer the world mostly because they want to play games. Regardless, while No Game No Life is a little more serious, it has some excellent moments of levity as well.
