For Fans of Isekaiād With Another Person
Konosuba
On his way back from buying a new game, Kazuma Satou died a pathetic death. However, he awakens before the Goddess Aqua who gives him two choices: go to heaven or reincarnate into an actual fantasy world. Naturally, the gamer picks the fantasy world. Now Kazuma must deal with defeating an evil demon king, useless party members, and paying living expenses.
Both shows are about people transported to a new world to become adventurers. However, in doing so, they are meant to be parodying more serious isekai shows. In Konosuba, everyone kind of sucks. In Do You like Your Mother, the mom is the super overpowered one that overshadows her son who is meant to be the hero.
Isekai Cheat Magician
Taichi and Ren, high school students and childhood friends, are transported to a fantasy world by a beam of light one afternoon. After narrowly escaping a monster attack, they travel with a group of adventurers to the guild. There, they discover that their magical aptitude is off the charts! Now in possession of incredibly magical ability, the must familiarize themselves with this world while they search for a way home.
Both new this season, in both series you see characters that are transported elsewhere and way too overpowered for that world. However, Isekai Cheat Magicians takes itself seriously and kind of ends up being a bit boring.
No Game No Life
In the real world, siblings Shiro and Sora are NEET shut-ins. However, in the virtual world, they are a legendary gaming duo. One day, after a strange email, they find their reality taken away as they are transported to the realm of Tet, God of Games. Here, Shiro and Sora must play games to defeat the sixteen races of this world as well as Tet in order to become the new gods.
Both are shows about family being transported to a fantasy world for various reasons. Furthermore, there is an oddly sexual vibe between said family members. However, whereas only Mamako is overpowered, both Sora and Shiro or OP in No Game No Life.
For Fans of Family Adventures
The Eccentric Family
In modern Kyoto, tanuki and tengu have lived secretly among humans for years. Yasburou Shimogamo, the third son of a prominent tanuki family, spends his days dipping his toes into human culture through shape shifting and caring for an old Tengu. However, something plagues this family, the mysterious and grisly death of their father. One day, the threads start to unravel.
This is less family adventure and more of a family mystery. Instead of a mother and son thrust into a fantasy world, this show focuses on fantasy creatures living in the modern world. However, family dynamics are at play, but they come off as less cheesy.
The Flying Witch
The young Makoto Kowata is a witch, but her skills in magic leave something to be desired. To further train her craft, she moves to rural Aomori to live with her cousins. This area, rich in nature, is the perfect place to commune with natural forces and hone her craft.
The Flying Witch isnāt as grand of an adventure like Do You like Your Mother? Instead, it is small daily adventures surrounding one witch and her extended family of cousins. Small things happen and they deal with them. It is more of an adventure in relaxation.
Michiko and Hatchin
For the fourth time, hardened criminal Michiko breaks out of a South American prison in order to search for a man from her past. This search leads her to the young Hana, a girl trapped under the thumb of her abusive foster family and daughter of the man Michiko is looking for. Breaking her out to lure out her father, the unlikely pair set off on their search, only to be embroiled in everything from betrayal to gang warfare.
As a realistic show, Michiko and Hatchin doesnāt have any fantasy elements, nor are the two characters even related. However, you get that same mother and child dynamic as the series goes on. While much less wholesome, Michiko and Hatchin does feature a hell of an adventure as well.
For Fans of Being Grossly Overpowered
Overlord
As the final hour approaches the life cycle of the MMO Yggdrasil, Momonga, a powerful wizard and leader of the dark guild Ainz Ooal Gown, is there to see it off. However, to his surprise, the servers donāt go down and even stranger is that all the NPC characters have come alive with their own unique personalities.
Both series obviously feature people being transported physically into the game. Yet, the tones of each series differ greatly. Do You Like Your Mother is more parody whereas Overlord is much more serious. Despite this, the main characters are wildly OP.
Sword Art Online
With the aid of NerveGear technology, video game players can now experience their playable worlds like never before – in virtual reality. For Kazuto Kirigaya, his game of choice is Sword Art Online. After beta testing the game, he logs into the launch and finds himself, as well as ten thousand other players, trapped in the game world.
It is made very obvious that Do You Like Your Mother is a kind of parody of shows like Sword Art Online. While SAO takes itself seriously, they also both have some wholesome and super cheesy moments in them that inspire a bit of cringe. Of course, you also have those characters that are overpowered for no other reason other than plot as well.
