In the city of Fuuto, criminals are making use of Gaia Memories that transform them into super-powered monsters called Dopants. However, there are also good guys like the self-proclaimed hard-boiled detective Shoutarou Hidari that also use Gaia Memories to fight these criminals. While the production of Gaia Memories have halted, sightings of Dopants still occur and Shoutarou and his Narumi Detective Agency are on the case.
I don’t know dick about Kamen Rider, but good anime, I know many dick’s worth about that! If you are looking for more anime recommendations like Fuuto PI, head on down below.

For Fans of Detective Stories
Bungou Stray Dogs
The orphanage that Atsushi Nakajima has been living at has been recently plagued by a tiger that only he can see. Blaming him for the incident, they kick him out. Now homeless, he wanders the streets until he meets the eccentric Osamu Dazai and saves him from drowning. As it turns out, Dazai is a supernatural detective and agrees to help him solve the mystery.
Both series surround detective agencies where the members have supernatural abilities that they use to help solve cases that the proper authorities can’t easily handle. Furthermore, as both Fuuto PI and Bungou Stray Dogs go on, they become more about those big super-powered fights and less about detective work.
Blood Beyond Battlefront
Vampires, fishmen, supersonic monkeys – They are all normal residents living alongside humans in Hellsalem’s Lot, formerly known as New York City. When a gate between Earth and the Beyond popped up there three years ago, old NYC became dominated by monsters, and now Libra, a secret organization, is tasked with keeping it in order. After hobbyist photographer Leonardo Watch obtains the All-Seeing Eyes of the Gods, he finds himself recruited into Libra.
While Libra isn’t the same sort of Private Investigation business that you see in Fuuto PI, it is an organization that handles certain incidents in a city that seems to be filled with both monsters and normal people. The main characters each have their own powers, though none of them are as flashy as Kamen Rider W.
BNA – Brand New Animal
Throughout history, humanity has always been at odds with the beastmen – a race that can change their shape into beasts. The beastmen have all but gone into hiding after extreme discrimination, but Anima City was built to be a self-governing safe haven where they can live without fear. During the towns’ 10th anniversary, Michiru, a human that has recently turned into a tanuki, visits the city in an attempt to find a cure for her sudden transformation. Unfortunately, there is a explosion in the square, and she gets caught up in the event. Together with the white wolf Shirou, the pair look into the explosion and find that there is indeed more to Michiru’s beastification.
There’s a mystery happening in both of these cities, and there is a detective who is on the case with their partner. While BNA is distinctly more anthropomorphic, it creates an interesting unfolding mystery similar to Fuuto PI and takes places in a similar sort of gritty city.
Hamatora the Animation
In this world, a small number of people have manifested the power to create small miracles. In Yokohama, two miracle users create a detective agency and use their powers to help people. However, one day they realize that the jobs they are receiving have a series of strange connections to a serial killer that their police friend is searching for.
Both Hamatora and Fuuto PI follow private detective agencies with two primary partners who both possess a supernatural ability that they use to handle cases where others have similar abilities and are causing trouble. Furthermore, those individual cases start adding up towards a larger event happening in the city.
For Fans of Fusion Dance Combinations
Tales of Zestiria The X
Sorey is a human that was raised among the seraphim, spiritual beings that are not visible to normal humans. However, one day when a human princess-knight wanders into their territory, he finds himself drawn to the human capital. This eventually leads him to become the new Shepherd, the one destined to defeat the Lord of Calamity and prevent the ruin of the world.
Both series lean heavily on the core combat being about the fusion of two people into one body. It gives them different elemental-type powers, and both shows also have a number of different combinations. However, as Tales of Zestiria is based on a JRPG, you can expect a JRPG-esque plot, though the anime does change it and actually makes it a bit more palatable.
Vividred Operation
Thanks to the manifestation engine, the world’s energy problems were solved. For Akane, she lives with her sister and grandfather in a poor, but happy and peaceful existence. However, one day humanity is threatened by a mysterious entity known as the Alone that is targeting the manifestation engine. Although no traditional weapons work, Akane finds that her grandfather, who used to work on the manifestation engine and now only develops seemingly useless inventions, invented the one weapon they have that can fight back – the Vivid System.
While Vividred is more of a magical girl series, and innately different from Fuuto PI’s hard-boiled detective theme, it is also another series about main characters that combine with their peers. Much like Shoutarou and Phillip, Akane can fuse with any one of her team mates in order to get new and greater powers than either had individually.
For Fans of Odd Couple Partners
Tiger and Bunny
In Stern Bild City, those who use their special powers for either good or evil are called NEXT, and heroes are regularly featured on TV catching the bad guys, getting paid for their entertainment. The hero known as Wild Tiger has been putting on less thrilling performances lately due to his inability to cooperate with other heroes, but when he teams up with his by-the-books new partner he nicknames Bunny, his luck might just turn around.
There is a lot in Fuuto PI that is like Tiger and Bunny, right down to the Kamen Rider suit. While Tiger and Bunny don’t combine, they fight crime in augmented super suits. While initially they do not get alone so well, they eventually come to form a partnership much like Phillip and Shoutarou.
Samurai Flamenco
Fueled by hero tales, the legend of his own grandfather, and an enduring sense of justice, the superstar model Masayoshi Hazama turns into the Samurai Flamenco by night. Featuring a cheesy handmade costume, he tries to foil crime with his nonexistent fighting skills.
Both series feature less official heroes and investigators who also have themselves a cop friend that assists in their cases. Think of it like a Shoutarou and Terui without a Phillip. While Samurai Flamenco started off as a parody of Tokusatsu-type heroes, it actually grows exactly into what it was parodying.
The Case Study of Vanitas
Scorned by his vampire peers for being born under a blue moon, it is said that the vampire Vanitas created a powerful grimoire known as the Book of Vanitas that would bring retribution to all crimson moon vampires. On his way to Paris, Noe is searching for this fabled book. While traveling aboard an airship, he is saved from a vampire attack by an eccentric man that claims to posses the Book of Vanitas and uses it to cure the attacking vampire that was driven rabid by a progressing event afflicting vampires called the Charlatan’s Parade.
While The Case Study of Vanitas is distinctly steampunk vampires instead of cyberpunk-esque detectives, both series feature a similar relationship between the main characters. They are close, but also butt heads, and ultimately need each other to balance out their flaws. They also present a lot of BL shipping bait, oddly enough.
