In the beginning, god created the heavens and the earth. Next came the long job of creating creatures to populate the earth. However, by then, god was tired so he outsourced it to a small team. This Heaven’s Design Team features a mediator that speaks to god as well as creative individuals to help create creatures to fill the Earth.
The problem with real unique anime like this is there is not much else similar to it. However, I love educational anime and this was another gem. If you are looking for more anime recommendations like Heaven’s Design Team, then head on down below.
Anime Like Heaven’s Design Team
For Fans of Why Animals Are The Way They Are
Beastars
This is a world of anthropomorphic animals where carnivores and herbivores live side by side with each other. At Cherryton Academy, young wolf Legoshi is a member of the drama club. While he is often called menacing due to his appearance, he wouldn’t hurt a fly. When one herbivore classmate is killed and devoured, Legoshi finds himself as the primary suspect.
Beastars may be more your your standard drama, but all the characters are animals, and they actually act like animals at times. The show is about how their instincts as animals control them and if they can resist giving into them. It’s not quite as educational as Heaven’s Design Team, but it is ponderously interesting.
Seton Academy: Join the Pack
Thanks to population decline, there are fewer humans left. Enter Mazama Jin, an animal hater who has enrolled in Seton Academy that is mostly anthropomorphic animal people. He immediately falls in love the Hino Hitomi, the only other human female in class. Unfortunately, as he tries to become closer with her, he gets pulled into the various shenanigans of his classmates.
While Seton Academy is more akin to Beastars above where animal people all go to school, it is actually more educational similar to Heaven’s Design Team as there are moments when the characters display some of the quirks that come with their species.
Polar Bear Cafe
Located near the local zoo, the charismatic polar bear Shirokuma decided to open his eponymous cafe. As a popular spot for humans and animals alike, it is a good place to relax after a hard day.
Both series are workplace comedies about animals. The big difference is that the animals are the workers in Polar Bear Cafe. Furthermore, while Polar Bear Cafe has animal-based humor, it doesn’t focus on the finer details of a species.
For Fans of Bureaucracy
Cool-headed Hozuki
Hell is a bureaucracy and it is running smoother than ever thanks to Hoozuki, the chief deputy of the King of Hell. This is his story of micromanaging and troubleshooting all the problems in Hell.
Heaven or Hell, any way you look at it, it’s a bureaucracy. As workplace comedies, these show the bureaucracy from both sides.
Aggretsuko
Between the condescension from her co-workers and the pressure from her boss, stress is life for 25-year-old office worker and red panda, Retsuko. Her meek attitude often causes her to be stepped on by everyone in her company, but she has an outlet – singing death metal karaoke about the hypocrisy of her peers. Even if it is just in her head, it is her way to let off steam.
Both series are workplace comedies involving animals. However, the difference here is pretty clear as Aggretsuko is about animal characters rather than creating animals for earth.
For Fans of Educational Anime
Cells at Work
The human body has approximately 37 trillion cells that are hard at work every day to keep you alive. Cells at Work tells the story of a red blood cell and a white blood cell and the tireless work of countless other cells to keep you alive. Germ invasions, scratches, and drama unfold inside this body.
Both series offer an interesting and educational look at biology. Heaven’s Design Team highlight animal biology while Cells at Work focuses on what is going on in the human body. If you enjoyed Heaven’s Design Team, it is unlikely you wouldn’t enjoy Cells at Work.
Moyashimon
Tadayasu is a college freshmen at an Agricultural University with a special power – he can talk to cute, chibified versions of bacteria and other microscopic organisms. While it sounds like fun, his special ability gets him into all kinds of trouble.
While Heaven’s Design Team educates you on animals, Moyashimon does something similar with microorganisms.
Dr. Stone
After years of unspoken feelings, Taiju Ooki is about to confess to his crush. However, at that moment, a bright green light engulfs humanity, and suddenly everyone is turned to stone. Thousands of years later, exactly the right series of events lines up in nature and leads to teenage genius and best friend of Taiju, Senku Ishigami, to be cured. After using the cure on Taiju, the pair set out to jump-start civilization and save humanity by speeding through all the most useful inventions of human history.
Both series are of a breed of anime I can get behind – one that hides facts behind a fun story. While Heaven’s Design Team is a basic comedy, Dr Stone dares to be a bit more with its plot, all the while featuring various chemistry and scientific innovations.
