One day while sitting in class, 16-year-old Yuri Honjo sees a tower taller than anything she has ever seen in the distance. Suddenly, she finds herself transported to a world full of skyscrapers connected by wood bridges and no way to the ground. She soon finds out that both her brother is there as well somewhere and there are those in masks that are forced to drive people to committing suicide or murder them. Now she struggles to survive and reunite with her brother Rika.

Darwin’s Game
After receiving an invitation, Kaname starts playing a mysterious new mobile game called Darwin’s Game. Unfortunately, when his opponent attacks him in real life, he must fight to survive. After narrowly winning his first fight, he discovers a hidden world of players that kill in order to win points.
Both series feature a killing game where the participants are forced to play and do so in a rather vast urban playground. However, while Darwin’s Game does leave them in the real world and provides them with benefits for playing, High Rise Invasion is more your standard struggle fest.
Btooom!
Unemployed and living with his mother, Ryouta Sakamoto’s only real achievement is being the top player in Japan of a video game called Btooom! However, one day he wakes up on an island with nothing but a small green crystal embedded in his hand. He soon finds out that someone wants him and others players to play Btooom! for real if they want to live.
Of all the other series, Btooom is the most like High Rise Invasion. Both series feature characters trapped in a strange location, they are forced to kill to survive, trusting others is dangerous, and there is ultimately a greater purpose to what they are doing.
Future Diary
Yukiteru Amano likes to imagine himself as an observer. He spends his days keeping a diary on his cell phone, but not about himself, about everything that goes on around him. At home, he spends his time conversing with his two imaginary friends, Deus Ex Machina, the God of space and time, and Murmur, his assistant. However, one day he discovers his friends are not so imaginary when they imbue him with the power of a diary that tells the future and forces him into a bloody survival game with godhood on the line.
Both are killing games in which a group of characters are working their way to become a god via one way or another. The real difference lies in the levels of brutality and lewdness. Future Diary is more brutal and angsty, High Rise Invasion is less brutal and more lewd.
For Fans of Trapped in Another World
Gantz
Kei Kurono is an apathetic young man that, while waiting for his train, runs into a childhood friend. When a homeless man falls onto a track, his friend coaxes him into helping save his life. Unfortunately, the train comes in and they both die. However, they both wake up in a strange room with other recently deceased people and a big black ball that tells them to kill aliens in order to gain their freedom.
Both series are about people that are taken to a new place and forced to play a game of survival. High Rise Invasion keeps everything very vague at first while Gantz explains a rules pretty clearly, but become more complex as things go on.
Terra Formars
After sending cockroaches and algae to terraform Mars as a second home for the now-overcrowded Earth, their efforts are coming back to bite them years in the future. Not only is an alien disease ravaging humanity on Earth, but the cockroaches evolved in murderous giants with a vendetta against humanity on Mars. Determining the disease came from Mars, a team of genetically-modified heroes from around the world are sent to the red planet and must fight in order to gather samples that will help create a cure.
Terra Formars is obviously a different beast, but it has its similarities. In Terra Formars, they go to Mars and fight intense and brutal fights against evolved muscly cockroaches. Both series essentially highlight the brutality and struggle of the situations they are in.
Danganronpa
Hope’s Peak Academy is an elite high school where those accepted are given special titles that showcase their skills. This year, only fifteen were accepted, and one of them was the completely normal Makoto Naegi who got in on sheer luck. The students are thrilled to be in such a prestigious school. That is, until they are trapped inside the school by principal and bear Monokuma who tasks them with killing one of their peers and not getting caught by the others in order to escape. However, if they are caught and found guilty in a trial, they will be executed instead.
Danganronpa is a killing game like High Rise Invasion, but instead of being action oriented, it is played out more like a murder mystery. The biggest difference is that Danganronpa really specializes in over the top characters, like masks, but more extreme.
For Fans of Survival Struggle
High School of the Dead
It happened suddenly. The dead rose and threw Japan into chaos. In the high school of Takashi Kimuro, the situation forced him to kill his bitten best friend and protect the man’s girlfriend, Rei. As they narrowly escape the school with a few others, they find the real survival just beginning.
Both series are difficult to pause without pausing on a panty shot or a bared bust. While the zombie apocalypse in High School of the Dead isn’t a killing game, both are lewd series of survival.
Ajin
Immortal humans known as Ajin first appeared in Africa 17 years ago. While they were labeled a threat to mankind, to many they were just an infrequent news item. However, for Kei Nagai, a high schooler studying hard to be a doctor, he discovers he is an Ajin after being fatally hit by a car. Now on the run from the government that wants to imprison him, Kei must find a way to survive.
Both Ajin and High Rise Invasion have the same author. Ajin isn’t quite as lewd, but it is similarly vicious and it is also guided by a pretty interesting overall plot aside from horrific violence. In both shows, essentially you watch the characters struggle both in surviving and with their morals.
Gleipnir
One morning, Shuichi Kagaya woke up as a monster. Complete with brute strength, a strong sense of smell, and big fluffy paws, he struggles to hold onto his humanity. Soon he meets a sadistic girl named Claire Aoki by saving her life. She holds his secret over her head and forces him to help her look for her sister that has also turned into a monster.
Both series, though different in plot, are similar in the fact that they combine horrific violence with lewd scenes. While being a monster is a bit different from the masks, it is a show also ruled by a good mystery, but the lewdness does tend to be a bit distracting.
