Kanade Amakusa’s high school life should have been normal. Instead, he is cursed with Absolute Choice. This curse means that every so often, he will be forced to make a choice that will force one of two things to happen. Unfortunately, both choices are often completely terrible and completely public.
While the lengthy title can be a turn off, you are doing yourself a disservice if you give Noucome a pass if you like good comedies. It is a little strong on the fan service to be sure, but the premise itself makes for some really fun and unexpected situations. If you are looking for more anime recommendations that serve up some good laughs like Noucome, then head on down below.
Anime Like Noucome – My Mental Choices Are Completely Interfering With My School Romantic Comedy
For Fans of Choices
Date a Live
Thirty years ago, an explosion devastated East Asia, killing over 150 million people. In the present day, such “spacequakes” are now a common occurrence. One day, Shidou Itsuka races to rescue his little sister from one such spacequake. However, when he is caught in the blast, he discovers a mysterious girl who turns out to be a Spirit. These girls are responsible for the devastation when they come crashing to Earth. However, when Shidou is rescued by an anti-Spirit team, he discovers it is headed up by his little sister. Recruited in and tasked with neutralizing Spirits with extreme force, Shidou discovers he can come to a more peaceful solution – making the Spirits fall in love.
Both series see the main character faced with various choices in his life. While Noucome plays this strictly for comedy, Date a Live is more like a dating sim to save the world. Woo the girl or face the consequences, if you will. Date a Live has plenty of comedy, but it also has so much more substance than Noucome.
The World Only God Knows
Keima Katsuragi is known as the “God of Conquest,” a man that can conquer any girl’s heart, at least in his dating sim games. However, when Keima arrogantly accepts an offer to prove his dating sim supremacy, he finds himself at the mercy of a demon that forces him to woo over real life girls.
Both series follow a guy that has a girl literally dropped on him and is challenged by god to complete a mission. While they are also both romantic comedies, The World God Only Knows takes things somewhat more seriously with the formation of its plot.
If Her Flag Breaks
High schooler Souta Hatate has the ability to see visual novel style flags above a person’s head. As such, he has the ability to stop events from happening. Using such a power, he has prevented a few deaths, but after an event that lead to him being the sole survivor, he started to believe he was a curse. Things change when he enters a new school and his classmate Nanami helps him unravel the mystery behind the flags.
Both series have key elements from dating sims inserted into them as part of the plot. In If Her Flag Breaks, the main character can technically ignore them, but he just doesn’t. In Noucome, the choice is absolute.
For Fans of Pervert Comedy
The Hentai Prince and the Stony Cat
Youto Yokodera is what you would call a pervert. However, his lewd actions are misunderstood for good intentions. Learning of a cat statue that can help people get rid of an unwanted trait, he visits it. This trait is now transferred to someone who wants it. Unfortunately, voicing your dirty thoughts is not as big of a boon as he would have hoped and now he wants his old trait back.
Both series have an element of not being able to control what comes out of your mouth some times. As such, it is often perverted and played up for laughs. Furthermore, both shows also see a harem gathered around the main character.
Shimoneta: A World Where Dirty Jokes Don’t Exist
While Japan was once the pit of sexual depravity, new morality laws and the Peace-Making System used to monitor the populace have seen Japan rise to the peaks of public morality. With all lewdness censored to the point that children do not know how babies are made, an infamous erotic terrorist named Blue Snow has risen. One day, average high schooler and the son of another infamous erotic terrorist, Tanukichi Okuma, is saved by Blue Snow on his way to his new high morality high school, only to be drawn into her new erotic terrorist organization, SOX, instead.
A comedy anime about forced choices means that most of the choices will be ecchi. As such, an anime about a world where dirty jokes are illegal means that it is a concentrated stream of dirty jokes.
Shomin Sample
Kimito Kagurazaka is a common man who was kidnapped and brought to an elite all-girls school where he was to serve as a sample of common people to educate the girls. The catch is that in order to not lose his manhood, he must pretend to be interested in only men.
As the main character is supposed to pretend to be attracted to men, of course they throw women at him. Like in Noucome, he attracts a harem that gets into regular naughty shenanigans.
For Fans of Silly School Comedies
The Pet Girl of Sakura Hall
Unable to resist taking in abandoned kittens, and amassing quite a collection of them, Sorata Kanda is forced to move to Suimei High School’s infamous Sakura Hall. This dorm is used to house all the misfit students that don’t quite fit in the regular housing. There, Sorata meets an array of different oddballs that inspire him to work towards getting back into the regular dorms and away from them. However, when a new transfer student moves in, he meets the incredible artist, Shiina Mashiro. While talented, she is completely incapable of taking care of herself, and so, Sorata brings her into his care and his strange days truly begin.
Essentially, what these two series have in common is they transform from a comedy about a group of misfits into a romantic comedy by the end. Noucome sort of fiddles about and never ends up anywhere, but The Pet Girl of Sakura Hall actually has some nice romantic pay off.
Baka and Test
Akihisa Yoshii attends a school where the student body is divided into classes based on the results of tests. Unfortunately, after helping a fainting girl on his placement exams, Akihisa is placed on the lowest rung – F Class. While in this school he can fight with augmented avatars empowered by test results to steal the perks of higher classes, Akihisa is an idiot and his classmates are none too bright either.
While they both feature different plots, they have similar characters. The characters themselves are a bunch of dumb-dumbs compared to their peers and it sets them up to be very special comedies. While Baka and Test doesn’t have the same element of lewdness, it is a similar sort of comedy.
D-Frag
Kazama thinks he has what it takes to take over his high school with his gang, even if it is just his two friends in it. However, when his gang has a run in with the four unique girls of the Game Development Club, he is shanghaied in as a member himself.
Both Noucome and D-Frag are some of the best comedies if you don’t have loty standards for classy jokes. However, D-Frag doesn’t have much ecchi comedy, so that can be a good or bad thing depending on your tastes.
