As a young girl, Hiyori’s father taught her the joys of fly fishing. Even after he unexpectedly passed away, she still uses fishing as a way to feel connected to him. One day while fishing, she meets and energetic new girl in town named Koharu who ends up fishing and eating said fish together. However, when she returns home, she discovers that Koharu is also her new step-sister.
It’s cute girls doing cute things, but this one is extra cute. It is also pretty educational. It’s the kind of wholesome that I needed in my life. If you are looking for more anime recommendations like Slow Loop, then head on down below.

For Fans of Fishing
Diary of Our Days at the Breakwater
Hina Tsurugi has just moved to a quiet seaside town with her family. While visiting the ocean, she stumbles upon a girl named Yuuki who invites her to join her while fishing. Hina manages to land an octopus, but being afraid of bugs and big creatures, she begs Yuuki to remove it when it lands on her. Yuuki uses this as an opportunity to try to get her to join the Breakwater Club, a club where members catch and eat fish.
Slow Loop and Diary of Our Days at the Breakwater have very similar set up, but Brekawater doesn’t have that blended family element. While Breakwater is also technically cute girls doing cute things, it is a little less moe.
Tsuritama
Yuki Sanada is a socially awkward young man that, due to his grandmother’s job, has to move around a lot. He has all but given up on making normal friends until he moved to the town of Enoshima. There he meets a man named Haru who claims to be an alien. It turns out Yuki was right on one account, he would never make “normal” friends.
While both series do have fishing in common, Tsuritama has a bit more of a plot, and an odd one at that. It isn’t just cute girls doing cute things, but rather goes for more abstract comedy. However, both series do have some nice seaside town visuals.
The Aquatope of White Sand
After abandoning her career and dream as an idol, Fuuka Miyazawa flees to Okinawa and wanders until she ends up at the Gama Gama Aquarium. She finds that this small aquarium is on the verge of closing down, meaning the granddaughter of the owner, Kukuru Misakino, is going to lose her dream. Seeing the magic and having nowhere else to go, Fuuka gets a job at the aquarium and she and Kukuru work tirelessly to bring it back from the brink.
While Aquatope isn’t about fishing, per-say, it does take place in an aquarium. Both series feature characters moving to new towns and becoming friends with the local fish-interested people. They end up being lovely-looking slice of life series, but while Aquatope is plenty cute, it does have some more heavy moments.

For Fans of Cute Girls Doing Outdoor Things
Laid-Back Camp
After moving, Nadeshiko decides to go see Mount Fuji. She manages to bike pretty far, but has to turn back because of the weather and ends up fainting. When she wakes up, she finds herself somewhere she has never been and no way to find her way back. It is in this wilderness where she is saved by Rin, a girl who was out camping by herself.
If you enjoyed the cute and chill nature of Slow Loop that also wedged in some educational moments, Laid-Back Camp actually does the very same thing. It is cute girls doing outdoor camping and highlights all the joys of that while also providing some education on the hobby.
Encouragement of Climb
Aoi Yukimura has loved mountains since she was a kid, but a playground accident left her afraid of heights. Now a timid first year high school student, she is practically friendless until she reconnects with the lively Hinata. As an old friend from her climbing days, Hinata fosters a change in Aoi’s world that leads her back to the mountains she loves.
Both series are, simply put, about cute girls enjoying their outdoor hobbies. Typical of this genre, the main character also has a bit of trauma that the power of friendship and hobbies will help them work through. It’s cute, it’s calming, and that’s all you need.
Are You Lost?
After a plane crash, four girls are left stranded on a desert island. Luckily, one of them is a hardcore survival enthusiast thanks to being trained by her father.
While Slow Loop is cute girls doing cute things, Are You Lost is more cute girls being… slightly lewd, I guess. Are You Lost definitely has the more ecchi vibes to it. However, like Slow Loop, it actually does wedge in applicable survival knowledge and maintains a nice chill slice of life vibe despite happening in what might be a scary situation.
Asteroid in Love
As a child, Mira met a boy named Ao at a campsite. While they were gazing at the sky, Mira learned there was a star with her name, but none with Ao’s name. She made a promise that one day they would explore asteroids and name a star after him. Years later, Mira is reunited with Ao at their school’s Earth Science Club. This is also when she discovers that Ao is actually a girl.
While Slow Loop does have more substance that other CGDCT anime, Asteroid in Love goes a step further by putting a little more focus on the characters and their growth. However, at its core, it is still just a bunch of friends enjoying Earth Science like the friends in Slow Loop enjoy fishing.
For Fans of Educating About Specific Interests
Let’s Make a Mug Too
Himeno Toyokawa’s mother was considered a legend in the world of pottery, but passed away when she was a child. Her memory lives on in the series of mugs that Himeno brings with her as she moves back to her mother’s hometown. Bringing these mugs to her new school, she instantly attracts the attention of the Pottery Club that ropes her into joining.
Both series are cute girls doing cute things in a club, and they are also pretty educational about it. However, one of the bigger similarities between Let’s Make a Mug Too and Slow Loop is that the main characters use their craft to stay connected to a lost loved one.
Takunomi
After a career change, Michiru Amatsuki moved to Tokyo and moved into a shared house with several other women. Every night after work, the group settles in and enjoys some drinks.
This seems wildly unrelated to Slow Loop and its wholesome fishing with friends, but both series are cute and wholesome series about people enjoying their passions. They also happen to be quite educational about those passions. It’s just the “cute girls” in Takunomi are older women getting their drink on.
How Heavy are the Dumbbells You Lift?
Hibiki, who has a great love of food, notices her clothes are starting to get tight. To fix that, she decides to enroll in a gym. At one, she meets a classmate named Akemi. Akemi, who likes the gym because of the abundance of buff dudes, tries to convince her to join. However, it is the beautiful trainer Machio that really convinces Hibiki to join their gym.
While the characters aren’t quite the same kind of moe cute in How Heavy are the Dumbbells You Lift, it is a series that loads you up with a lot of applicable fitness knowledge. Yup, that’s different from fishing, but it is still an interesting educational show all the same.
