For Fans of Killing to Save the World

talentless nana anime

Talentless Nana

Earth has been assaulted by monsters that have come to be known as the enemy of humanity. To combat this, secluded schools were formed to train children with extraordinary powers to fight back. However, that is an elaborate lie. The truth is that these super powered children are the threat to humanity and one powerless girl has been sent to their school to kill them off.

Both of these series work with the same type of subversion. Talentless Nana is about executing those with super powers who are a threat to the world rather than the aspiring young super heroes they think they are. The Executioner and Her Way of Life is the same, but with isekai protagonists.

The Worlds Finest Assassin Gets Reincarnated in Another World anime

The World’s Finest Assassin Gets Reincarnated in Another World as an Aristocrat

The greatest assassin on Earth lived only to be a tool by those that wished to wield his mastery. That is, until they decided that he was no longer needed and ended his life. By the grace of a goddess, this masterful man was reincarnated into a new world where he is asked to kill a hero that will later bring about the end of that world. Deciding to finally live for himself, this man, now named Lugh Tuatha De, puts his skills as a killer to the test with foes who wield real magic.

Both series are similar in that they are isekai series that follow the various missions of assassins. However, The World’s Finest Assassin is more dedicated to the tropes that come with isekai whereas The Executioner and Her Way of Life is more of a subversion. Regardless, you watch them murder for the betterment of the world.

akame ga kill group

Akame ga Kill

Tatsumi is a naive boy from a rural village that makes the trip to the city in order to join the military and help his hometown. However, after he is rejected, he ends up joining Night Raid, a group of assassins part of a revolutionary movement to overthrow the government. From there, he must fight a brutal and increasingly bloody shadow war.

While not an isekai fantasy, Akame ga Kill, like The Executioner and Her Way of Life, follows those that will kill in order to carry out their ideals. Instead of working for a church, those in Akame ga Kill are more of a political rebel group who know the only way to change anything is through violence.

For Fans of Strong Yuri Bait

otherside picnic anime

Otherside Picnic

After accidentally entering, Sorao finds herself in the desolate, and as she discovers, dangerous Otherworld. As she ponders whether to just die or not, she is saved by a girl named Toriko who is looking for her friend Satsuki who she believes is somewhere in this world. After meeting, a friendship and partnership springs up as they explore the new reality before them.

Both series feature two girls of similar character archetypes meeting in another world and traveling together. Throughout their growing friendship, you are fed the world’s strongest indicators of a romantic relationship without anyone ever committing. They both are interesting isekai romps, but frustrating character relationships.

flip flappers anime

Flip Flappers

Paprika and Cocona hold the keys to open the door where they can meet from their different times in a dimension called Pure Illusion. In this dimension, they search for the Shard of Mimi which is said to grant any wish. However, finding it will not be easy.

While The Executioner and Her Way of Life is nice looking visually, Flip Flappers is a more psychedelic adventure in a different world. Regardless, they are both about girls kind of aimlessly wandering around and yuri baiting audiences with their growing relationship.

blue reflection ray anime

Blue Reflection Ray

Pieces of human emotions manifest themselves as fragments, and the select few that are strong enough to posses them become Reflectors. They are able to equip special rings – blue rings that protect and preserve fragments and red rings that prevent negative emotions and steal fragments from others. Ruka manages to get herself a blue ring after being unable to return it to a person who dropped it. This leads her to another blue ring wielder, Hiori, who, after an encounter with red Reflectors, decide to become reflectors themselves.

Both of these series feature main characters with a similar sort of dynamic. One is bright and bubbly while the other is wounded and brooding. However, the isekai genre in The Executioner and Her Way of Life is distinctly different from the magical girl genre that is Blue Reflection Ray. Regardless, in between the plot, there is plenty of yuri bait fan service.

For Fans of Isekai’d People Are Problem In That World

drifters-anime

Drifters

While forming the rear guard for his uncle’s escape, Toyohisa Shimazu manages to mortally wound Ii Naomasa, but is critically wounded himself in the process. While trying to limp back home, he finds himself transported from the field to a hallway lined with doors. There a mysterious man sends him spiraling into another world. Dragged into the forest by two young elves, Toyohisa is patched up by two others from the Land of the Rising Sun that turn out to be Yoichi Suketaka Nasu and Oda Nobunaga. From there, Toyohisa and his fellow historical figures, named “drifters” must save (or conquer) their new world.

While vastly different in tone and plot, both of these isekai series essentially feature people coming from another world and absolutely wrecking havoc on their new world. Drifters sees them start a war campaign while The Executioner and Her Way of Life already has things managed with church-sanctioned murder.

combatants will be dispatched anime

Combatants Will Be Dispatched

On Earth, the villainous Kisaragi Corporation has finally conquered everything, but they have their eye on the entire universe. Having finally created a transporter, they send agent Roku-gou to the kingdom of Grace where he is to infiltrate and eventually conquer the kingdom for the corporation. Of course, to ensure the success of one of their more disposable agents, they send with him Alice, an exceptional android, to make sure the mission is carried out. Finally arriving, Roku-gou and Alice end up infiltrating the inner circle of the kingdom and helping them secure victory against an invading Demon Lord.

While Combatants Will Be Dispatched has the main characters actually making positive differences on the world they are sent to, they are also working to conquer that world for an evil corporation. Their motives aren’t kind, and that is where the comedy comes from. It is a more comedic experience in a vein similar to The Executioner and Her Way of Life.

the rising of the shield hero anime

The Rising of The Shield Hero

The stories tell of four heroes summoned from another world – the sword, spear, bow, and shield heroes who will prevent calamity. With darkness bearing down on them, the Kingdom of Melromarc summons these heroes from modern day Japan. For otaku Naofumi Iwatani, unfortunately he is labeled the shield hero, the weakest of the group. Worse yet, betrayal sees him labeled as a criminal and outcasted. With hatred and vengeance consuming him, he sets forth to grow strong.

Both of these isekai series really benefit from being subversive to their now-packed genre. In The Rising of The Shield Hero, the main character gets betrayed right as his classic trope-filled adventure starts and it sets him off course. While he is still doing good for the world, all the other summoned heroes are inadvertently messing up the world. They could use some executioners, you might say.
