After the death of his family, Yuuri has been left by himself to care for his large estate. As he isn’t equipped to do much of anything around the house as a noble, he hires some help. Lilith is a beautiful young maid who makes delicious food, cleans his home, and takes excellent care of him. However, Yuuri finds her perfection entirely too suspicious.
This isn’t the first time this situation has been played out in anime, but even if it knows what it wants to be, it could have tried a bit harder with some plot. If you are looking for more anime recommendations like The Maid I Hired Recently is Mysterious, head on down below.

The Duke of Death and His Maid
After being cursed by a witch as a child, any living thing that the young duke touches will wither and die. Feared by his mother, he is sent to live in a mansion in the woods. While secluded, he is not entirely alone. He was accompanied by his aging butler Rob as well as his maid, Alice. Despite not being able to touch him, Alice enjoys teasing the young lord and her lack of fear allows them to grow closer, eventually spurring the duke’s desire to lift his curse.
Both of these series have almost the exact same set up of a noble boy in his secluded mansion being cared for almost exclusively by one maid. However, the Duke of Death has a little extra element of having him being unable to touch living things.
Inu X Boku SS
Ririchiyo Shirakiin is the sheltered daughter of a rich family, but she has been dependent on them her entire life. However, while she seeks to change that, she has a sharp tongue that needs minding. When she moves into a high security apartment complex to start her new life of independence, she discovers that the residents are not only strange, but everyone in the apartment – including herself – are half-human and half-yokai. Furthermore, as a condition of being able to move out, she now has to live with her new bodyguard, Soushi – a handsome and oddly submissive secret service agent.
While gender flipped, they are similar series in their set ups. Both follow noble young people who aren’t great at being able to care for themselves, but that’s fine because they have an overly devoted servant to do it for them.
Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid
Miss Kobayashi is a programmer that lives alone in her apartment. However, one day a giant green dragons ends up on her doorstep and transforms into a women in a maid outfit. Apparently Kobayashi had gotten drunk one night and ended up saving this dragon. Now, dragon Tooru intends to repay her debt through housework.
While both series are about people being cared for by a well-endowed and overly affectionate maid, Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid is more modern in setting and both main characters are girls as well as adults. Still, it is a pretty wholesome show, but not without a good dose of flirting.
Vermeil in Gold
While the young mage Alto excels at most other magics, he is on the verge of failing his first year at Royal Ortigia Magic Academy because he cannot summon a familiar. Giving his exam one last shot, he stumbles upon a grimoire that finally lets him summon a familiar. However, this bodacious, beautiful woman isn’t a spirit, she is a demon. She agrees to help him if she can recharge her power through passionate kisses.
Despite being a series taking place in a magic school and the bond being between summoner and his demon servant, Vermeil in Gold and The Maid I Hired Recently is Mysterious have the same sort of relationship. Vermeil is distinctly more aggressive in her affections at first, but then it morphs to her developing real feelings due to the main character’s likable personality.

When Will Ayumu Make His Move?
One day, Ayumu quits the kendo club and decides to join the Shogi Club which only has one member. Urushi is happy to have a playing partner and as the older student, she seeks to mentor Ayumu. However, his straightforward and honest demeanor often has her blushing with embarrassment. While she waits for a confession from him, Ayumu has vowed that he won’t confess until he beats her at a game of Shogi.
While different in setting, The Maid I Hired Recently is Mysterious and When Will Ayumu Make His Move both follow the same formula. The girl teases, the man answers straight forwardly and honestly, they chronically blush. There isn’t much of a plot outside of that.
Tonikawa – Over The Moon For You
After being ridiculed for his strange name, Nasa, like the space agency, decides he will become a man even greater than the starry sky. However, one night, that all changes when he sees a beautiful girl. She ends up saving him from being fatally hit by a truck while crossing the street to talk to her. Having chased her down despite his serious injuries, he asks her out. She says she will go out with him if they marry. He agrees, and passes out. Waking up to find her gone, he abandons his ambitions until one day when she shows up with their marriage registration.
Both series are about two people living together, and the female counterpart of that pair having a decidedly hard time admitting where she came from. However, neither anime series dedicates much time to solving that mystery. Instead you get cute little vignettes about the pair doing stuff together and usually ending with the girl being caught off guard by the man’s straightforward nature.
Mother of the Goddess’ Dormitory
After their home burns down and he is abandoned by his father, Koushi Nagumo wanders homeless until he collapses on the street. He is found by a woman named Mineru and taken to a female dormitory. Koushi discovers that Mineru is the temporary manager there, and she invites him to be the permanent dorm mother to the problematic female residents.
Immediately notable is that both series have female main characters with abundant cleavage, but Mother of the Goddess’ Dormitory has significantly more characters like that. While they have that tidbit in common, both series are about a young boy living with at least one woman and often charming them with purely his refreshing personality. Mother of the Goddess’ Dormitory does essentially have him acting as a caretaker, whereas it is the reverse in The Maid I Hired Recently is Mysterious.
For Fans of Romances in Seclusion
Taisho Maiden Fairy Tale
After losing his mother and the loss of his dominant hand in a car crash, Tamahiko Shima was exiled by his strict father to an estate in the mountains of Chiba. Becoming a pessimist and determined to waste away in his uselessness, Tamahiko gets a surprise one night when his father bought a young girl from those who owed him a debt and sent her to live with him as his new bride. Although he laments her having to marry someone like him, his new betrothed Yuzuki and her wealth of kindness becomes rehabilitating.
Both series are historically-inspired romances that take place in a secluded mansion where a girl is hired (or purchased) to essentially be a caretaker for a young noble man. However, while The Maid I Hired Recently is Mysterious is more Victorian in setting, Taisho Maiden Fairy Tale takes place in Japan’s Taisho era which happens in the early 1900s.
The Ancient Magus’ Bride
After being abandoned by her family, Chise Hatori is a 16-year-old teenager without hope. In order to not have to worry about herself, she sells herself to slavers, only to be purchased by Magus Elias Ainsworth. There she is told she will become his apprentice and, in the future, his bride. Together they work together to build a relationship and work to control her own magus powers that will eventually result in her early death.
Both series take place in a mansion in the middle of the woods. As The Ancient Magus’ Bride starts off with him essentially purchasing her as a slave, it doesn’t dive into any romance right away. However, a relationship builds slow in the show. It is less flirting and teasing, and instead pursues a slow burn relationship and plot.
