The Immortal Tatsu is an legendary yakuza name, but after taking down a rival gang single-handedly, he disappears. Now he has reappeared as an apron-wearing, laundry-doing, bento-lunch-making househusband for his office-working wife.
While the animation makes it barely count as an anime series, it at least gives this amazing comedy manga a little hype. If you are looking for more anime recommendations like The Way of The Househusband, then head on down below.

For Fans of Silly Thug Comedy
Back Street Girls
After disobeying their boss and messing up a job, three yakuza men are given a choice – commit suicide or go to Thailand and have a sex change to become female idols. They make the choice to go to Thailand and after grueling idol training, make their debut. Unfortunately for them, they are a hit!
Both are about former yakuza thugs making a change in their life! Unfortunately, they also share a certain low budget for animation, but that actually works in Back Street Girls favor as it can enhance the comedy.
Hinamatsuri
One night, an object falls through space and time into the living room of dignified yakuza member Nitta. The object turns out to be a strange girl with psychic powers, but Nitta is reluctant to both take her in and to accept her offer to make use of those powers. Respecting his decision to not use her as a tool, this girl, named Hina, decides to help him anyway as they begin their life together.
Think of Hinamatsuri as what The Way of the Househusband should have been. A comedy featuring little comedy skits throughout most episodes and nice, but stylized animation.
Cromartie High School
Takashi Kamiyama is your typical mild-mannered high school student. However, instead of living a boring normal life, he enrolls at infamous Cromartie High School, a school known for breeding thugs. It is this decision that sees the end of his normal high school days.
If you enjoyed the certain intensity that Tatsu came at everything with, then Cromartie is a natural next choice. However, it is a touch older so you get an older sort of art style.
For Fans of Taking Care of Your Waifu
Love is Like a Cocktail
Everyday when office lady Chisato comes home, her loving husband and bartender Sora makes her a good meal and a cocktail. While she loves these tasty concoctions, she loves her husband’s kind heart more.
Both are anime series where husbands are basically taking care of their wives. However, while Love is Like a Cocktail is humorous at times, it is mostly just wholesome.
I Can’t Understand What My Husband is Saying
Although he is an otaku and she is a casual-smoking, social-drinking office lady, Hajime and Kaoru fell in love and got married. Now they must learn how to cohabitate together despite a few odd habits on both ends.
The Way of the Househusband and I Can’t Understand What My Husband is Saying are both short episode comedy series about married couples with one being into anime. I Can’t Understand What My Husband is Saying does move at quite a clip though, so good luck reading those subtitles.
Tonikawa: Over the Moon For You
After being ridiculed for his strange name, Nasa, like the space agency, decides he will become a man even greater than the starry sky. However, one night, that all changes when he sees a beautiful girl. She ends up saving him from being fatally hit by a truck while crossing the street to talk to her. Having chased her down despite his serious injuries, he asks her out. She says she will go out with him if they marry. He agrees, and passes out. Waking up to find her gone, he abandons his ambitions until one day when she shows up with their marriage registration.
If you enjoyed the wholesome moments between the main couple in The Way of The Househusband, then this is for you. It is still a comedy as well, but less intense and more just cute.
For Fans of Hardcore Comedies
Detroit Metal City
The popular indie band Detroit Metal City is known for captivating audiences with its dark death metal. The lead singer in particular, Johannes Krauser II, is infamous for being like a demon straight out of hell. However, unbeknownst to their many worshipers, Krauser’s normal self is the soft-spoken average college student Souichi. Switching between them leads this young man on a number of misadventures.
While both share the unfortunately low budget for animation, they also share amazing comedy as well. Furthermore, you get the same intensity from the main characters at certain times.
My Bride is a Mermaid
Michishio Nagasumi is living a normal life when he almost drowns on summer vacation. He is rescued by, of all things, a beautiful mermaid. Unfortunately, she is from a yakuza family that states if a human sees a mermaid, either the human or the mermaid must die. To save her life, Michishio agrees to marry the mermaid and become part of this crazy family.
While both have yakuza in them, mostly it is the non-stop comedy they have in common. The yakuza in My Bride is a Mermaid, despite them being mermen, is more your standard portrayal, though.
Great Teacher Onizuka
After becoming reformed from his rough and tumble past as a bike gang leader, Onizuka is looking for a new ambition in life. After witnessing a hot girl falling for her ugly teacher, he decides to become a teacher himself. However, instead of hot girls draping themselves all over him, he just has a group of problem students that the school administration had all but given up on.
While Onizuka was never actual yakuza, both anime series share the same theme of a thug that has reformed themselves. They kept the attitude, but gained respectability.
