world trigger anime

Anime Like World Trigger

After a gate to another world opens on Earth, Mikado City is invaded by mysterious creatures impervious to traditional weaponry called Neighbors. In order to combat the Neighbor menace, special weapons are created called Triggers. This is the tale of the next generation of Trigger users as they are trained, and the Neighbor that may have infiltrated the school.

While it definitely doesn’t leave a good first impression, if you ditched World Trigger in the first few episodes, you are missing out an underrated gem. In fact, one could say it doesn’t even get good until episode 10, but it has some wiggle room considering how many episodes the first season has. Anyway, if you want more anime recommendations like World Trigger, then head on down below.

Anime Like World Trigger

For Fans of Enemies That Require Special Weapons to Defeat

chrome shelled regios anime

Chrome-Shelled Regios

The world has ended and is overrun with Filth Monsters. Humanity lives in mobile cities called Regios and use Dite weapons to defend themselves. Layfon is a student hoping to forget a brutal past, but his abilities catch the attention of fellow students and they attempt to recruit him into their battle group.

Both shows are about a world that has been invaded by violent creatures that are a threat to humanity. However, in Chrome-Shelled Regios, the world is a bit more in shambles. They also share the use of special weapons that really just look like swords.

Qualidea Code anime

Qualidea Code

One day the skies split open and aliens known as Unknown poured in for a brutal attack. Years later, humanity has been pushed to the brink and found that the children they put in cryosleep have awakened with unique supernatural powers that allow them to fight back against the Unknown.

Qualidea Code and World Trigger have a bit of the same premise, but some circumstances are changed. Both focus on young children wielded special weapons or powers in order to fight a vaguely named enemy of humanity.

black bullet anime

Black Bullet

In the year 2021, a parasitic virus has ravaged humanity by turning them into monsters, driving the remaining humans into massive walled cities. However, while a special metal can keep these monsters at bay and fight them, children are already being born with the virus dormant within them. It is decided that these “cursed children” are humanity’s best hope for fighting the virus.

Both series take place in a world where humanity is threatened. Black Bullet, however, focuses on a disease rather than just a vague creature threat. However, in both, young children are the best shot at fighting back using their special weapons or powers.

For Fans of Enemy Creatures as Allies

parasyte anime

Parasyte

One night, sixteen-year-old Shinichi Izumi was peacefully sleeping when a race of parasitic aliens descended on Earth. One parasite infects Shinichi, trying to get to his brain to take over his body, but ends up getting stuck in his right hand. Unable to relocate to the brain, the alien, named Migi, now has no choice but to learn to coexist with Shinichi in his body in order to stay alive. Unfortunately, the other parasitic aliens are not so friendly with humans or to parasites that failed to complete their mission.

Both Parasyte and World Trigger are about alien invasions. World Trigger is more your traditional threat while Parasyte is a body snatching affair. They also have an alien that infiltrates humanity and acts as an ally to their side. However, Parasyte is less about fighting back and more about desperately trying to survive.

demon slayer anime

Demon Slayer

After the death of his father, Tanjirou has taken up the role of the man of the home, supporting his mother and five siblings. However, after selling charcoal in town, he returns to tragedy. All his family was brutally slaughtered, save for one of his sisters. Unfortunately, she has been attacked by a demon and mingled their blood, turning her into a demon as well. However, she still shows signs of humanity, thrusting Tanjirou onto a quest to find a way to change his sister back and preserve what is left of his family.

While obviously Demon Slayer isn’t about aliens, it actually has a similar set up. It has a young person that has recently started fighting against the enemy, but their biggest ally is a person from that enemy race. In Demon Slayer, his sister is a demon while in World Trigger, Yuuma is a Neighbor.

blue exorcist anime

Blue Exorcist

Humans and demons have always been separated by two different worlds, humans in Assiah and demons in Gehenna. The only way to travel between the worlds is by possession, which is how Satan, the ruler of Gehenna, wages his war. Blue Exorcist follows Rin Okumura, a somewhat trouble teen and son of Satan. However, while his father wants him to help conquer the human world, Rin decides to become an exorcist to fight him instead.

Both series, though about different enemy creatures, are action-heavy series where one of the main characters is actually the thing they are fighting against. Rin is a demon who was raised by humans and thus fights for them.

luck and logic anime

Luck & Logic

Logic is the concept that makes up the abstract properties of each world. However, aliens known as Foreigners have harnessed logic in order to invade Earth. Now the Another Logic Counter Agency has been established to fight them back via Logicalists that form bonds with Foreigners in order to seek peace. After overloading his powers, Yoshichika Tsurugi has lost the ability to wield logic, but after meeting the Foreigner Goddess Athena, he is once again able to take to the battlefield like never before.

Both series have the distinctly unfortunate similarity of starting off rather poorly, though Luck & Logic, with it convoluted nature never really fully steps up like World Trigger does. Regardless, both series are about aliens invading earth and agencies established to fight back.

For Fans of Defense Organizations

gate anime

Gate: Thus the JSDF Fought There

Japanese Self-Defense Force solider and otaku Youji Itami is in the Ginza district of Tokyo feeding his hobby one afternoon when a gate to another world opens and medieval soldiers flood modern day Japan. While Itami, in conjunction with the local police, manage to save many civilian lives, his hero status forces him to go beyond the gate with his fellow soldiers to explore a mysterious new world filled with swords, magic, elves, and dragons.

While Gate is about fantasy creatures, like World Trigger, they have invaded our world briefly and a portion of the military is tasked with responding. The big difference here is that Gate sends people into the fantasy world where they abide by normal rules of engagement.

date a live anime

Date a Live

Thirty years ago, an explosion devastated East Asia, killing over 150 million people. In the present day, such “spacequakes” are now a common occurrence. One day, Shidou Itsuka races to rescue his little sister from one such spacequake. However, when he is caught in the blast, he discovers a mysterious girl who turns out to be a Spirit. These girls are responsible for the devastation when they come crashing to Earth. However, when Shidou is rescued by an anti-Spirit team, he discovers it is headed up by his little sister. Recruited in and tasked with neutralizing Spirits with extreme force, Shidou discovers he can come to a more peaceful solution – making the Spirits fall in love.

Much cuter and waifu-ier (Why yes, I do make up words) in nature, Date a Live is also an alien invasion series. However, unlike World Trigger, the aliens are dealt with through both love and violence. It gives Date a Live that nice little twist, but both series do focus on the agencies that fight back against catastrophic events.

seraph of the end anime

Seraph of the End

After a mysterious virus killed every human over 13 years old, the vampires rose up with a promise to protect the survivors. The only thing they asked in return is donations of blood. For Yuuichirou and Mikaela, they have grown tired of being livestock and pose a daring escape plan. It ultimately fails with only Yuuichirou left alive. However, after joining up with a mercenary company, he swears vengeance on the vampires, no matter the cost.

Vampires and aliens are obviously different, but they did the same thing to the world. They pushed humanity to the brink and now young children are being trained to fight them. Furthermore, there is also that element of enemy as an ally in Seraph of the End, but it is played a bit differently.
