It is said that the more titillation you are exposed to, the more extreme your desires become. That might be why many taboo romance anime even exist. There is something comforting about watching the same romance anime plot and tropes play themselves out, but sometimes you want something a little more devious. For that, there are plenty of anime series that explore romances of a more taboo nature in varying degrees of degeneracy.
Best Taboo Romance Anime
Koi Kaze
Saeki Koushirou has dreams of becoming a wedding planner, but his own love life is in shambles. After being dumped by his girlfriend, his desire for love is dulled, but again awakened by a chance encounter with a high school girl. Unfortunately, as it turns out, this girl is his sister whom he has not seen since his parents’ divorce, and she is coming to live with him and his father.
There is ten tons of incest anime on this list, but I thought it might be nice to start with the tamest one. Koi Kaze approaches the subject maturely and might even be able to shine a bit of light on those feelings, and why they are so prevalent in anime, outside of the sheer degeneracy of some fans who crave it.
Kodomo no Jikan
As Aoki Daisuke prepares to teach his very first elementary class, there is nothing that could prepare him for the challenges ahead. It is his kind-heartedness that makes one of his 3rd grade students fall in love with him, and she is more aggressive than an elementary school girl should be about it.
From tame incest to the absolutely least tame of student-teacher relationships, Kodomo no Jikan is the show no one should want to admit being a fan of. It follows an overly sexual third grader trying to seduce her adult teacher while also being groomed by her cousin who is her sole guardian.
Super Lovers
During one fateful summer, Haru, the eldest son of his family, bonds with his new adoptive brother, Ren. The boy has no social skills and is distrustful of humans, but they slowly grow closer. Years later, Haru has forgotten his summer with Ren after an accident. However, when Ren shows up on his doorstep, Haru must struggle to remember.
While yaoi isn’t innately so taboo, same sex anime is usually rife with problematic relationships. Super Lover is a particular highlight since it is about a man pursuing a relationship with his much younger adoptive brother who was raised by dogs and lightly groomed by his paramour at a very young age. Thankfully the actual romantic relationship doesn’t happen until he is older, but not as old as some might have liked.
Candy Boy
Yukino and Kanade are twin sisters who share a room in their high school’s dorm. Together they enjoy life with each other until one day another girl seeks to express her feelings for Yukino. It is this innocent interaction that causes the sisters to reveal their true feelings for each other.
No, no, yuri is not immune either. In fact, yuri often ends up dancing more frequently in the taboo of things while yaoi just has its whole “rape” issue. Candy Boy features the budding, and actually surprisingly nice romance between twin sisters.
Citrus
After her mother remarries, fashionable Yuzu moves to a new city. However, with her all-girls school being strict and conservative, she immediately butts heads with the stoic student council present. Worse yet, later that night, she discovers that the student council president is now her new stepsister.
If Candy Boy was too sweet, Citrus is a bit of sour for you. It follows the relationship between two new step-sisters who quickly progress, or even skip, flirtation and go right to the bedroom with things.
Kiss x Sis
After his father got remarried, Keita found himself with a new mother and two twin step-sisters. However, as the girls transitioned into teenagers, their familial love for Keita turned into something more.
Kiss x Sis is pure fan fantasy. It follows a guy who gets two new twin step-sisters. They are, of course, in love with him and get up to all sorts of lewd activities with him. It is taboo fan service in its finest form.
Please Teacher
One day, Kei discovers a floating woman in a lake and discovers two things – she is an alien and also his teacher. As they get to know each other, a romance blooms, but when the principal discovers this, he insists they get married.
If this series wasn’t played for complete comedy, it might be weird. It is about an alien, who becomes a teacher, marrying a student who learns her secret because the principal demanded it. It has some nice moments, and decent comedy, but that doesn’t make it less taboo.
Oreimo – My Little Sister Can’t Possibly Be This Cute
Kyousuke has a smart, cute, and extremely bratty little sister who hates him. While they got along when they were young, they grew apart as they got older. One day when he finds an anime DVD he doesn’t recognize in his house. He opens it up only to discover eroge inside. Later, he finds out it belongs to his sister, who is a super secret otaku.
Infamous and coy with its taboo romance, Oreimo dips its toes in the relationship between a brother and his sister. As far as incest anime goes, it doesn’t take things as far and is rather playfully fun sometimes.
Eromanga Sensei
When their parents married, Masamune Izumi was thrilled to have a new adorable little sister. However, after their parents died, his little sister Sagiri became a shut-in. Now her only caretaker, Masamune supports them as a light novel author. However, one day he finds out that the mysterious illustrator Eromanga-sensei that draws the lewd covers for his light novel series is actually his reclusive sister.
By the same author as Oreimo, and if that aforementioned series dipped its toes in taboo, Eromanga Sensei is poised to dive in head first. It is a series about a step-brother who becomes the sole caretaker of his very young, shut-in step-sister. He is, of course, in love with her too. In a series that could have gotten seriously devious, it maintains its cute facade.
After the Rain
Akira Tachibana used to love running, but after an injury, she can’t run like she used to. Now, she passes time by working in a family restaurant where she finds herself slowly falling in love with the divorced manager.
Age gap romances are perhaps not that taboo, but this one at least broaches the subject like they are. A high school girl decides to pursue her much older and divorced manager at her part-time job. It has nice moments, but also doesn’t cross the established line. It is to age gap romances what Koi Kaze is to incest – mature and can help you understand why these feelings develop.
Domestic Girlfriend
Natsuo is in love with his teacher Hina. In order to try and forget his feelings, he goes to a mixer and meets a girl named Rui. Oddly enough, she asks him to do her a favor – to have sex with her. He does so, but soon he is faced with a unique problem. His father has remarried and he now has two new step-sisters that he knows too well – Rui and Hina.
Domestic Girlfriend is like watching a dumpster fire. You know how it will end, but you still really enjoy watching it burn. It follows the relationship between a guy and his two new step-sisters. One step-sister is his teacher who he is in love with and the other is a girl he had slept with previously in order to fill the void.
Netsuzou Trap
Yuma and Hotaru are neighbors and childhood friends. Nervous about landing her first boyfriend, Yuma goes to seasoned Hotaru for advice, but it turns out that advice becomes more like practice. And yet, this passion slowly drifts into the foreground as their secret tryst turns into real feelings.
Perhaps the only thing that makes Netsuzou Trap so taboo is the NTR of it all. Both girls have boyfriends, but they cheat on those boyfriends with each other. It’s rather good at being seductive, but NTR is a hard no for a lot of people.
Sky of Connection
Twins Haruka and Sora Kasugano are coming back to a town filled with memories for them. After their parents died in a horrible traffic accident, the twins want to start over peacefully at their grandfather’s house. However, it is their own suppressed memories and emotions that come back to haunt them.
As it was originally a visual novel, it follows the standard visual novel to anime romance route of exploring the main character’s relationships with all the women around him. Of course, one of those women is also his sister. Since this is one of those rare romances with sex scenes, it can be a bit too much for some.
My Wife is a High School Girl
Asami Onohara may be a 17-year-old high school student, but she is already married. She keeps the secret of her marriage from her classmates because her husband is, in fact, her Physics teacher Kyosuke Ichimaru. While they maintain the secret at school, home has its own challenges with Asami’s father forbidding any amorous conduct until after she graduates.
The title of this anime series very helpfully tells you all that you need to know about it. However, instead of being rather lewd, or at least disturbing, instead it ends up pretty wholesome.
Recently, My Sister is Unusual
When her mother remarries, Mitsuki is less than thrilled to have a new step-brother and step-father. However, after an accident sends her to the hospital, she finds herself possessed by a ghost who was deeply in love with her new step-brother. While trying to get the ghost inhabiting her to heaven, she discovers that her fondest wish was to consummate her love.
I guess you could say that this series does break the rut that incest anime got in. It features a ghost possesses a guy’s little step-sister and falling in love with him. So it is the ghost making his little sister pursue him romantically, but… Well, its still plenty taboo.
Scum’s Wish
To the outside world, Mugi and Hanabi look like the perfect couple, but the truth is that they are only dating each other because they can’t be with the people they actually want to be with. For Hanabi, it is her childhood friend-turned-homeroom-teacher and for Mugi it is his older tutor that has been teaching him since middle school. In order to stave off the loneliness, the pair find solace in each other’s arms.
There isn’t much in Scum’s Wish that isn’t kind of messed up. It was made for those who enjoy their romance on the taboo side. Both partners in the main couple are in love with other people, who are adults, their teachers, and – in turn – dating each other. This makes it so they can’t be with who they really love, so they instead enjoy each other’s bodies.
Happy Sugar Life
Once with a reputation for messing around with men, high school girl Satou Matsuzuka has finally fallen in love – with a young girl she keeps locked in her apartment. Shio, this young girl, seems to have no other place she would rather be than in Satou’s arms. However, Satou is ready to do anything to protect their relationship.
One more taboo yuri romance for the road, yes? Well, this one is perhaps the most twisted since it involves a women kidnapping a girl (who is younger than you might want her to be) and carrying on their romance while she is trapped in her apartment. That’s plenty bad on its own until the woman develops a yandere streak.
I feel dirty, but before I try to scrub off this current layer of skin, if you have any more solid taboo romances for the standard taboo romance anime junkie, let them know in the comments section below.
About half of the titles you list here aren’t even by definition “Taboo”. Just because its not a male/female doesn’t mean its wrong. Onegai Teacher, Kei is 18 so him being married to Mizuho is fine. My wife is a high school girl, the marriage is between 2 consenting parties with parental approval.
Oh, Of course, teachers should always be able to have relationships with their students and it should not be weird or criminal.
I hope you’re not an educator.
Are you completely forgetting the age of the parties involved? Most cases you hear on the news of teacher/student affairs, the student is always a minor usually between 12-16. Onegai teacher and Okusama wa Joshikousei they’re 17 and up so it might be frowned upon but its not exactly Taboo or illegal. In those cases they’re keeping it a secret until its “acceptable” for them to be viewed in a relationship.
