Cute Boys Doing Cute Things Anime

The main cast of the play it cool guys anime all asleep on a train

Play It Cool, Guys

If there were any anime that could codify Cute Boys Doing Cute Things as an official genre, it would be Play It Cool, Guys.

The series is a plotless wonder following several unrelated young men who are occasionally clumsy, but have cute smooth recoveries to cover it up.

That’s it. That’s the show. Handsome young men trip over stuff, have awkward moments, and then smoothly recovery by pretending they were doing something else. Like how you wave to someone, discover they were waving at the person behind you, and then run your hand through your hair instead to cover it up – that sort of thing.

my new boss is goofy anime

My New Boss is Goofy

Like Play It Cool, Guys is about a variety of cute guys being cutely clumsy, My New Boss is Goofy is about a new worker being healed after working under an abusive boss by a cutely clumsy new boss.

There isn’t any sort of plot. Just sit back and enjoy the fluffiness.

Outburst dreamer boys anime

Outburst Dreamer Boys

Although Outburst Dreamer Boys has a female main character, it has the spirit of Cute Boys Doing Cute Things by being exactly about that.

This series follows a new transfer student who gets immediately pulled into the Hero Club, a club dedicated to helping people, but in reality is just populated with a wide array of dramatic chuunibyou boys.

They do help people, but mostly they spend their days comically indulging their fantasies.

A daycare full of kids from the Gakuen Babysitters anime

Gakuen Babysitters

You would think the one anime about babysitting would not be about a high school boy, but anime is often full of surprises.

Gakuen Babysitters is about a high school boy who accepts tuition and board at an academy in exchange for babysitting the young children of the teachers. As his parents died in a plane crash and he had been taking care of his infant brother, he is already well qualified for the task.

What you get in this series is a few cute high school boys taking care of a wide array of endlessly cute infant children. This one of the rare Cute Boys Doing Cute Things anime that managed to successfully implement the moe art style while featuring mostly male characters.

you and me anime

You and Me

The charm of Cute Girls Doing Cute Things anime is that it makes cute slice of life jokes out of the cheerful, silly things that school girls get up to. When you get a slice of life series about a group of guy friends, well, it tends to be less wholesome.

You and Me is the odd man out there. This series follows a group of four childhood male friends in their second year of high school. They go about their lives, talk about crushes, and generally live out a peaceful, cheerful school life without making a joke out of every single thing.

daily lives of high school boys anime

The Daily Lives of High School Boys

The Daily Lives of High School Boys is like You and Me above, but aimed at being a comedy about the weird shenanigans a group of male high school friends can get up to.

While this series is definitely more focused on jokes, and often remembered for its comedy, it is still essentially a group of cute boys doing arguably cute things.

sanrio boys anime

Sanrio Boys

Boys should be able to like what they want, and Sanrio Boys is a CBDCT anime all about that.

For those not familiar, Sanrio is a company dedicated to making cute and marketable characters. They made Hello Kitty, Aggrestsuko, and Gudetama. Sanrio Boys is about boys who like their designs and enjoy keeping and collecting plushes.

Obviously, being a man and having a cute plushie means a decent amount of bullying, but Sanrio Boys is about meeting like-minded friends and standing up for what you like. It’s got more drama than the standard CBDCT anime, but it is a series literally about cute boys liking cute things.

pretty boys detective club anime

Pretty Boys Detective Club

While another anime with a female main character, Pretty Boy Detective Club quickly has her pretend to be a boy as one must be a boy and a detective to join the titular club. It’s in the rules.

With its surreal animation and densely-packed complicated dialogue, Pretty Boys Detective Club is a bit more of a complex Cute Boys Doing Cute Things anime. It also doesn’t seem so cute, given that the plot is about them solving various mysteries, some of them somewhat sinister.

However, you realize the cuteness of these boys if not by their general haphazard personalities, but by the fact that the fancy surrealism and complicated dialogue are all just a veneer for what is another club full of chuunibyou middle school boys!

meganebu anime

Meganebu

Anime characters with glasses don’t get enough love. Or perhaps, it is just that those who enjoy them do so in stoic silence. Regardless, Meganebu is for people that love bespectacled anime boys.

The series is about the Glasses Club, a club for passionate glasses wearers, at an all-boys school. Mostly the plot is about them comically professing their love for glasses and trying not to be shut down by higher powers that deem their club useless.

The main cast of the Rainbow Days anime posing for a photo in front of a chain link fence

Rainbow Days

Rainbow Days follows a group of four high school boys and their romantic endeavors. While that would make this a romance anime, the bane of the Cute People Doing Cute Things genre, it at least goes about the relationships in a light and indeed cute way.

This series is kind of like a “boyfriend” anime, in which each boy is a different type of stereotypical anime boyfriend from throughout the romance genre – the sadist, the playboy, the romantic, ect. They all converge to meddle in the main character’s star-crossed relationship in their own comical ways.

Ouran High School Host Club anime

Ouran High School Host Club

Not unlike Pretty Boy Detective Club, Ouran High School Host Club has a female main character who joins a club of cute boys who make her pretend to be a man. This time, she’s not solving mysteries, but is pretending to be a host to girls who come to the host club.

While Ouran High School Host Club is technically telling a blooming romance story, much of the series is just shenanigans. The host club frequently has theme days and does things on a whim as they are all ultra-rich and can afford the luxury.

A Destructive God Sits Next to Me anime

A Destructive God Sits Next to Me

One last chuunibyou anime for the road. This time, no female main character. Only cute boys, doing cute things, and being big chuunibyous.

A Destructive God Sits Next to Me is chuunibyou slice of life shenanigans in its purest form. A normal guy is constantly pestered by his chuunibyou classmate who believes that they were heroic friends in a past life. His delusions are made even more troublesome by his enabling other friend that has his own different sort of delusions.

From there, watch a series of energetic and delusional middle schoolers plague this one normal kid in comical, cute ways.

uchitama anime

Uchitama?! Have you seen my Tama?

In a double dose of cuteness, Uchitama features animals in a neighborhood personified as people (with animal ears) who still do animal things. While not every character is a male, a disproportionate chunk of them are.

This series is for people that also enjoy fluffy, plotless animal anime. It doesn’t have much going on outside of cute animal people acting like animals would, but being people.

yotsuiro biyori anime

Yotsuiro Biyori

Similar to the “just put all those cute girls in a club” set up that Cute Girls Doing Cute Things anime loves so much, for Cute Boys Doing Cute Things, making them all work in a cafe is a pretty popular choice too.

Yotsuiro Biyori keeps the spirit of CBDCT, but “cute” is not the right word for these boys. “Handsome men providing handsome service” seems more appropriate. Small, key difference aside, Yotsuiro Biyori is solely about handsome men providing excellent service and eye candy in a Japanese-style cafe.

Cute High Earth Defense Club LOVE anime

Cute High Earth Defense Club LOVE!

Cute High Earth Defense Club Love is one of the exceptionally rare “Magical Boy” anime, a gender-equal spin-off of the Magical Girl genre. Lucky for us, they also happen to be just adorable while doing magical boy stuff, too.

The plot of this series is rather literally “they’re magical girls, but they’re boys,” so it focuses on them doing all the standard Magical Girl anime tropes, but as a group of diverse personalitied boys.

rainy cocoa anime

Rainy Cocoa

Just as Cute Girls Doing Cute Things anime isn’t a genre for everyone, Rainy Cocoa isn’t a show for everyone. It is admittedly hard to love since its 2-minute per episode run-time limits the amount it can do, but that is really all the time you need for cute boys doing cute barista things.

Rainy Cocoa follows the male servers at a small cafe known for its hot cocoa. That’s about it. They serve a variety of diverse customers, and looks good doing it.

The lack of depth other than the eye candy is probably another reason this series is not well-loved.

the royal tutor anime

The Royal Tutor

With a bit of a fantasy spin, The Royal Tutor manages to elevate a very basic plot by injecting just enough cute boys to do cute things.

This series follows a brilliant middle aged man with a stature of a child. He is hired by the king to tutor the king’s four sons who continue to drive off their tutors with their shenanigans. Of course, each son has their own diverse personality that makes them each uniquely difficult to teach, and it is those big personalities that make up the bulk of any sort of plot here.
