Are you ready to dive deep into the Eureka Seven fandom? Well, brace yourself for a roller coaster of quality and being told that you should have just stopped at the first series by other fans more jaded than yourself. That being said, if you still want to dive on in there, perhaps because the Hi-Evolution movies caught your eye by looking so cool, we can help with that.
Eureka Seven Watch Order
How to Watch Eureka Seven in Order
You can watch your way through Eureka Seven in broadcast order since chronology is generally pretty messy. That makes things easier, but even easier is having all the titles in one tidy place.
The simple answer on how to Watch Eureka Seven is as follows:
- Eureka Seven
- Eureka Seven: Pocket Full of Rainbows (Movie)
- Eureka Seven AO
- Eureka Seven Hi-Evolution 1 (Movie)
- Anemone: Eureka Seven Hi-Evolution (Movie)
- Eureka Seven Hi-Evolution 3 (Movie)
Normally, I’d also do chronological, but Eureka Seven is all about alternative settings, and there isn’t much reason to do a chronological watch.
What is Wrong With AO?
If you have been hanging around Eureka Seven fans, you will come across the near-universal opinion that you should skip AO and will be better off for it. I’m not in the business of telling people not to watch anime, but I will help you make your own informed decision.
AO, as an anime of its own, is fine. AO, as a sequel to Eureka Seven, is more problematic. It neglects or even unravels essential themes, creates inconsistencies in story and characters, and lacks a great deal of characters from the original series until right at the end.
If you should watch it ultimately boils down to how much you enjoyed Eureka Seven. If you enjoyed it a lot and can’t temper down those expectations, then maybe give it a pass.
Watching Eureka Seven Before Hi-Evolution
As Hi-Evolution is an alternative setting, you benefit from having some knowledge of the series. The original is a must-watch before the Hi-Evolution movies, though be aware that much of the first Hi-Evolution movie is just the first part of the original series with better animation and a spare few added moments. Watching AO is not necessary to watch the Hi-Evolution movies, however.
