In the world of fantasy and escapism that is isekai anime, one of the most popular fantasies to add in a perfect new world of adventure for the audience is the ever-popular fantasy of having a harem.
What better way to enhance an exciting new life in another world for the male audience than offering up a whole slew of cheerful, beautiful women who all love the main character – who is, of course, usually just a stand-in for the audience – so, therefor, all they all love you, too! <3
Yet, while you can often find anime that has the main character surrounded by women, not every isekai with a female group around the main character classifies as a harem. Harem isekai anime is all about the give and take of affection. The girls are into him, and he is into at least one of them in return.
In essence, harem isekai anime isn’t just the presence of many girls around the main character, harem isekai anime is all about a specific vibe, and these harem isekai anime recommendations capture that specific vibe.
Harem Isekai Anime
Jobless Reincarnation
When it comes to isekai anime, often you can have a fun harem adventure or you can have stunning visuals and well choreographed fights. Unfortunately, it is actually very rare to be able to have both in satisfying balance, but perhaps that’s why Jobless Reincarnation has become so popular. It does indeed offer both great action and a satisfying harem experience in the same show.
Unlike some of the more traditional harem isekai on this list, Jobless Reincarnation actually doesn’t have the main character with his harem much of the time – at least not yet. Instead, it sows the seeds of future waifus by having the main character fall and woo them individually, but the story also allows them to be out of his orbit at times while still letting you know that they are still in love with him enough to come back.
Farming Life in Another World
Why have one manageable harem of two to seven women when you can have a whole village that is predominantly women? That is what Farming Life in Another World is working with.
At first it follows one guy starting his new life in another world as a farmer on a small homestead in the forest like he wanted. The rest of the series is about the many women who end up joining him there until it becomes big enough to be recognized as a village.
As it makes no effort to hide its harem sensibilities, of course all of these women are after the main character romantically. Enough that eventually he has a bedroom schedule on who gets to sleep with him that night.
In Another World With My Smartphone
While not the original harem isekai anime, In Another World With My Smartphone was really the isekai anime that set the standard for it. It puts in the minimum effort towards everything as a baseline for average that isekai measures to – and that’s not a bad thing either. It does everything averagely, but it is as averagely likable as any isekai.
As is tradition, In Another World With My Smartphone is about exactly what the title says. His special isekai quirk is that he can use his smartphone in a fantasy land, but truthfully, it ought to be called “In Another World With My Magnificent OP Magic” because that is what he is using the most and usually attracted his harem members to him in the first place.
Regardless, they go on casual adventures, fight some fights, and the women who come into his company all peacefully agree that they will all just marry him and share.
How Not To Summon a Demon Lord
How Not to Summon a Demon Lord works with the ultimate anti-social gamer fantasy about being summoned to another world as your game character and immediately enslaving the two girls trying to enslave you – then getting really ecchi about it.
While How Not To Summon a Demon Lord features a smaller main harem, it does make up for it by being extra ecchi about all things.
Death March to the Parallel World Rhapsody
Similar to In Another World With My Smartphone, Death March to the Parallel World Rhapsody offers up the standard isekai formula without a lot of the additional flavor to set it apart from the mass.
One of those baseline flavors is the standard issue harem who all find the magnificently overpowered main character, who was once a programmer in the game he is now living in, to be just swell.
In addition to women who join him because he is nice and powerful, the series also collects a series of slaves that join him because he “rescued” them and it is better to be owned by him than someone else.
How a Realist Hero Rebuilt the Kingdom
How a Realist Hero Rebuilt The Kingdom brought in all the non-harem interested isekai fans with the promise of exciting realm administration and a singular main love interest – then proceeded to give the main character many wives to marry for political purposes.
He is initially married to the princess when he is – rather literally – given the keys to the kingdom. Together, the main character use his knowledge as an economic student to save the failing kingdom he is now responsible for. However, ruling a kingdom isn’t all managing the economy, it is about dealing with political rivals as well as neighboring countries.
The quick and easy solution to these problems is often just marry him to another woman. While he does gain many new wives, How a Realist Hero Rebuilt the Kingdom does at least keep his first wife as the primary love interest.
Outbreak Company
Not every isekai anime need to be about action and adventure, and harem isekai anime knows that by successfully focusing on the waifus instead of the taking of laifus. Outbreak Company goes the slice of life route by being about a main character who is spreading otaku knowledge to a fantasy world.
He is chosen as an otaku ambassador of a fantasy land to spread weeb culture far and wide, starting with the princess of the kingdom.
While it starts with a rather light premise, Outbreak Company does have its fair bit of political intrigue pushing back against general weebery as well as a decent amount of discrimination for a touch of drama.
Spirit Chronicles
Spirit Chronicles sets itself apart from the pack by having a more unique take on isekai. The main character was a boy in Japan who died and reincarnated into a fantasy world, but he is sharing the body of a boy that already lived in that world. So the actual main character is a fusion of the two characters who, once fused, wake up magical powers and each have their own mysteries to solve and vendettas to carry out.
From there, it actually falls immediately back in step with traditional fantasy isekai anime by sending the main character to magic school and endearing him to a series of cute girls despite his somewhat anti-social personality.
Harem in The Labyrinth of Another World
While How Not to Summon a Demon Lord fused action, harem, and lewdness into an enjoyable package, what if a harem isekai just said, “screw the action,” and focused on harem and lewdness instead? Harem in The Labyrinth of Another World explores exactly that.
It starts off not-so-innocently enough about a main character who gets talked into buying a cute female slave to be an “adventuring companion.” After murdering enough bandits for the money to buy her, he promptly takes her home each night after a bare minimum amount of adventure and has relations with her.
While “harem” is in the title, the last half of each episode after a certain point is just sexy set pieces, so they quickly introduce other girls right at the end because they didn’t pace themselves so well, but gave fans of the show exactly what they wanted to see anyway.
The Fruit of Evolution – Before I Knew It, My Life Had It Made
Going from a very sexy harem to something that takes itself a lot less seriously, The Fruit of Evolution is the harem isekai anime for those who like a lighter, more comical adventure.
The main character is transported to a new world with his class, but far separated for them because he was an outcast in school. However, this chubby loser eats some fruit that turns out is the fruit of evolution, and eventually evolves to the very pinnacle of the human race in looks and ability.
So, obviously, his first harem member is a great ape with anime girl eyes who eventually evolves into a cute girl with just ape-like strength.
From there, the series breaks out the thesaurus to see how many relationships they can have in a harem without any crossover. He gets a wife, a girlfriend, a mount, a non-blood-related little sister, a couple of childhood friends – it hits all the tropes.
The Master of Ragnarok & Blesser of Einherjar
In harem isekai, usually the great bulk of the plot is the things the main character does to earn himself the admiration of a series of girls that become his harem. However, The Master of Ragnarok skips all of that stuff immediately and he just gets one.
The series follows a main character sent to another world with his smartphone who uses that to rise the warrior clan that took him in to prominence with battle strategies.
While skipping the “gather the harem” part allows The Master of Ragnarok to get right to the action, the action itself is quickly Googled and easily solved, which doesn’t leave much actual meat for the series.
Chronicles of an Aristocrat Reborn in Another World – The Apostle of the Gods Who Know No Self-Restraint
What can be said about Chronicles of an Aristocrat Reborn in Another World that hasn’t been said about other isekai harem anime because what’s done in Chronicles of an Aristocrat Reborn in Another World that hasn’t already been done?
That’s about all I can offer on this series. It follows a boy reborn into a fantasy world as the third son of a noble whose noble death in a previous life endeared him so much to the gods that they spoiled him OP with their blessings. He is so overpowered that even when hiding his power he tops out the power measuring system in that world.
As these things go, he decides to become an adventurer and earns the admiration of everyone ranging from his sister and initial female mentors to various other noble daughters, saints, and cutely designed ladies.
Tales of Wedding Rings
Honestly, it is surprising that such an obvious harem plot offered up in Tales of Wedding Rings hasn’t come along before because it is so simple, so effective, and honestly, so good for what it is.
Tales of Wedding Rings follows a boy who falls for his childhood friend, then discovers she is a princess from a fantasy land who has to go back home to get married. He follows her to this new world and marries her instead, starting his destiny to become the Ring King, a powerful hero who marries the princesses, who are ring of power holders, of five nations to defeat the Abyss King.
Now, what that plot doesn’t quite tell you is how much five newly married women want to sleep with their new shared husband and how progressively aggressive they get about it.
The Ambition of Oda Nobuna
Anime likes to turn Nobunaga into a lot of weird things, but the most common thing to do to this warlord of historical fame is to turn him into a cute girl.
The Ambition of Oda Nobuna combines isekai – if you count being sent back in time to the past as isekai – with gender-bending and historical fiction by following a modern boy sent to Feudal Japan where all warlords of fame were actually cute girls.
Summoned to Another World For A Second Time
With as prevalent as the standard isekai concept is these days, sending a character back to a fantasy world for another go-around is actually a fairly inventive, if not expected, evolution. However, Summoned to Another World For A Second Time maybe doesn’t handle it as well as it could have.
This series is about what it says in the title, as is tradition. However, while endearing himself to a new girl or two, mostly the series is the main character traveling, meeting girls who were in his harem last time, and reminiscing about the adventures they had together before moving on.
When such a large amount of the series is dedicated to how he met and bonded with these cute waifus in the first place, maybe you should have just told that story instead.
