This distinctly Middle Eastern, 1001 Nights-inspired shounen anime may seem a little childish at first, but as you go on watching it, it brings that promised big action of the genre. However, because apparently calling something “season 2” has fallen out of style, it can be mildly confusing to know where to start things in Magi.
How to Watch Magi in Order
Magi Broadcast Watch Order
While it is perfectly fine to watch Magi in the order it was broadcast in, the chronological watch order has its merits too.
Magi Broadcast Order:
- Magi: Labyrinth of Magic
- Magi: The Kingdom of Magic
- Magi: Adventures of Sinbad (Optional but recommended!)
- Sinbad OVAs (Optional, not recommended)
Magi Chronological Watch Order
I feel watching Magi in chronological order has quite a bit of merit considering Magi really starts to shine in the second season, and the prequel spin-off makes it shine even more.
Magi Chronological Order:
- Magi: Adventures of Sinbad
- Sinbad OVAs (Optional, not recommended)
- Magi: The Labyrinth of Magic
- Magi: The Kingdom of Magic
Why Watch Sinbad First?
While Sinbad aired after the original series as a spin-off, it actually helps to clarify and define a lot of characters that are unceremoniously introduced and mentioned in Kingdom of Magic.
Furthermore, if I am being honest, Sinbad is also a more fun series. You do not need any knowledge of the main Magi series to enjoy Sinbad, and it does provide good information for the core series. As such, I really recommend watching it first.
That being said, you don’t need to watch Sinbad either. If you want to save Sinbad for later, or not watch it at all, then you just do Labyrinth and then Kingdom.
Why No Sinbad OVAs?
The Sinbad OVAs came out before the Sinbad TV anime. They are essentially the story of the first six episodes of the Sinbad TV anime. If you watched the Sinbad TV anime, you don’t need to watch the OVAs since it just repeats the information.
