How to Watch Sailor Moon in Order

Beloved by children of all ages (and genders) back in the day, Sailor Moon has, admittedly, aged a bit – and sometimes not well. Whether you are trying to recapture some of that elusive childhood glee or feel the need to watch the original before the reboot for some reason, this full and complete Sailor Moon watch order has got your back.

How to Watch Sailor Moon in Order

While there are tons of ways to watch Sailor Moon, this complete watch order covers it all. I’m not going to do chronological for this series because that just gets too complicated. However, if you want the best chronology as well as freedom from filler, just skipping to the reboot – Sailor Moon Crystal – would be best.

  • Sailor Moon
  • Sailor Moon R
  • Sailor Moon R: The Movie (Optional)
  • Sailor Moon S
  • Sailor Moon S Movie: Hearts in Ice (Optional)
  • Sailor Moon SuperS
  • Sailor Moon SuperS Plus: Ami’s First Love (Optional)
  • Sailor Moon SuperS Specials (Optional)
  • Sailor Moon SuperS the Movie: Black Dream Hole (Optional)
  • Sailor Moon SailorStars
  • Sailor Moon Crystal
  • Sailor Moon Eternal Movie 1 and 2

Can I Just Skip to Sailor Moon Crystal (The Reboot) Without Watching The Original?

To be frank, Sailor Moon, the original, while nostalgic, has aged poorly in some places. You also have to deal with tone shifts as some series are serious and dark while others are more bubbly. If you want to watch the series for the first time, Crystal and the Eternal movies are more faithful to the manga. This means new fans will get the canon experience without all that occasionally fun Sailor Moon filler and old fans will see events go differently than the original series.

Should I Skip The Movies Of The Original?

Anything I marked optional in the above listing is, indeed, optional. They don’t have any impact to the TV plot, so no need to go track them down unless you want to. Also, in the case of the SuperS specials, one of them is just a recap.

The Sailor Moon Eternal movies are not optional though. They cover two of the later arcs of the manga since Crystal opted to go from a TV series to movies instead.
